If you are in a lakeside dwelling is the lake "out front" or "out back"?

With my family it's always been "out front"...

At our cottage the living room is lakeside and the kitchen is roadside.

At my house the kitchen is in the back and the livingroom is in the front.

Does a 4 acre pond count, if so it's outback.

Yup. And by the way, the pond is good for you

Always out front.
Definitely our front... that is why you have a place there, because you have a lake out front!!

near my lake house the lake is generally regarded as in front of the house, even though the front door is on the back.

Almost unanimous; when you live on a lake, it is out front. "Lake front property."

(My wife and I have argued about this for a long time.)

And you use the side doors as the front enterance.

How about down the street? ;)

We actually go "down to the lake" at our cabin. The lake sits at the bottom of about 100 stairs.

Around here, the front of the house is the side that faces the street.

If a sliding glass door counts as a front door then our lake is in the front of the house. We don't actually have a "real" door as most homes do.

When you don't live near a street, but more precisely a driveway, then the front is where the view is, and the back is where the garage sits.

Then my slider is the front door and the lake is in the front of the house. Settled!
