View Full Version : Hey guys, anyone have a Ford Excursion

I bought one a little while back. Didn't have the electric brake controller plug in the glove compartment that is used to wire the controller. Crap. Ebay and ten bucks later I had one.

I just wired it to my brake controller, and slid under my dash to find the plug...and nothing. Double crap. I have a pretty little electric brake controller attached to a pretty little Ford Excursion/Super Duty brake control module plug with no female end to violate.

Not a single place.

On one of the main wiring harnesses, there are four wires that are just sticking out. They are the same color code as the brake controller.

I don't want to just tie into those without knowing.

My problem is that I need to tow about 300 miles in the morning.

Anyone have an Excursion that has wired a brake controller?

Its a long shot, and a little off topic, but a brother needs a break here....

Thanks in advance.

Tekonsha was able to answer all my questions regarding installing the Voyager controllers on my trucks.....

what year truck?
what make & model controller?

Does the Excursion have the factory trailer towing package?

If so, the connection should be under the dash soomewhere. If not, you got a few hours of wiring to do.

I am sure you already checked the website of the trailer brake manufacture for instructions.

Sorry, not much help here, except it is easy if it had the factory trailer tow packeage that is prewired.

I put the Tekonsha Prodigy in mine. Took about 2 minutes. Plug was strapped up under the dash directly above the gas pedal. Put four screws to mount it to the dash. DONE. This was in a '02 F250. 6 of my buddies have Excursions, I do think they all had the same harness with or without tow packages, BUT I do not think all were wired into the rear of the truck. I think some had wires under the hood that needed to be connected.

What year is the truck you are talking about?

Its an 05 Excursion. They are all supposed to have the wired plug under the dash. On this....its just missing.

The trailer is "only" 5000lbs. I can probably get away with it, but I dont want to if there is a simple solution.

Thanks all.

the factory connector you're looking for is up under the dash. look under the drivers side, more towards the center. kind of behind the little storage slot that is in the dash.
small rectangle connector with 6 pins. PM me if you need more info

Like tommcat said, I think there should be six wires on the truck end.

You guys are awesome! It was there, just not where the diagram told me to look. The factory male plug had a few sheets of directions, showing the female end of the plug in one location.

It was not.

Kind of behind the storage compartment...that statement allowed me to find it in a few seconds.

All worked perfectly, and it was much safer pulling the toys with brakes!!!

Thanks again all.

I kind of hated my Excursion until this weekend. Although its not as tight and smooth as my Suburban, it is a VERY capable towing vehicle! It was nice.

Powerstroke or V10?

V10.

The powerstroke (pretty much any diesel) is far superior, but in my opinion not worth the effort.

I have owned diesels my entire life...grew up with them.

If you do a simple spreadsheet, you will find that owning the diesel is not financially worth it unless you keep the vehicle over 150k miles. I will not do that....and its nice to not deal with the noise of a diesel.

Too many times I have had to turn off the engine ordering something at a drive through. Not anymore.

Not knocking diesels, its just not for everyone.

The V10 is a solid engine, but (other ford owners please don't freak) if you want to buy the ultimate multipurpose SUV/pulling vehicle......buy a Suburban. They just do everything right.

V10.

good choice. the power on the 6.8 was bumped up for 05 and the 6.0 is a complete POS. i may start looking for one for myself.

on a side note, i just put a 6 inch lift on my buddies last weekend. it looks great.
