um, why would you want to bid on a scam? just wondering? does it allow them to report fraud better?

I'd just worry having myself bid on something i didn't want.

It's been explained to me this way. Ebay will find out about a scam somehow. Through someone reporting it, or other means. If it is a scam, there is no obligation to pay because there really is nothing to sell and/or pay for. The person that "stole" the identity is looking for email addresses and information from the wouldbe buyer that actually places the emails to the "scammer". The "cantact seller" link usually helps tip off the seller that more than likely has no idea his user name has been stolen.
BUT, if it is legit, you would be obligated to pay...;)
