Has anyone taken a online boat class? Has it helped with insurance cost?

I have never taken an online course, but I went and got my 100-ton skippers licence down in San Diego at Maritime Institute. I have never checked with my insurance company about a discount. Does your company offer a discount?

I've read in other threads about getting "certified" w/ the USCG. The indication I've got is that it makes one much less likely to get stopped by the local lake po-po. Not that I'm too concerned about this, but every little bit helps. I've investgated and come up with nothing. Does anyone have any info on how to do this?

When I changed insurance companies last summer, they gave a discount if you could prove you've been a boat owner for ten or more years, but never said anything about a safety course discount. Humm, I mite have to check on that one!

My first boat as an adult, so I'm taking it just to make sure i know everything I think I know. The insurance also offers a discount for the course. I'm not sure how much.

Hmmm, I'll have to check with my insurance co. (State Farm). I've been a boat owner for almost 20 years...seems like I should be able to get something back for that...

That said, my insurance on the boat is only about $125/yr...
