View Full Version : Color questions on a new boat order.

I'm going down to the dealership to verify my order was entered correctly based off what I asked for at the boat show. (Build slot is next week)

Out of curiosity, what do you think would look better with a solid yellow boat with a black strip along the water line (hull 2), a yellow trailer or a black trailer?

I kind of like the look of the yellow, but I'm thinking the black will be easier to touch up rock chips, etc., and will still look good.

I'm waffling the same on the Bimini, but leaning toward black. I have a yellow accented aerostitch suit for my motorcycle, and cleaning bug splats off of yellow material is a pain.

One last question. I ordered 4 tower speakers w/ two having the forward facing lights. Any advantage to getting all 4 with lights, or is two lights more then enough to light up the trailer during loading at dusk/night?

Thanks,
Mike

I am not a big fan of black trailers... they get really hot and seem to fade more! Go with the yellow. I would also do a yellow bimini with a black accent!

Go with the yellow trailer, and if there is any striping or lettering, it should be black.

On the boat, the black accent stripe at the waterline would look great in my opinion.

As for the bimini, I would go with a 3-panel bimini. Two yellow with a black stripe in the middle.

Might as well get 4 tower lights. Can you get 2 forward and 2 rear?

I would do yellow trailer and a solid black bimini.

Here are two pictures of my boat and Eagle's boat. They are red...and not yellow...but both have the different trailers and bimini's.

Maybe this wil help you get a better idea of how yours will look.

:)

First picture is my boat.

I vote for the yellow trailer and bimini :twocents:

I have the two lights and they light up the trailer from across the lake at night. Four would be overkill.

Take a look in the "marketplace" under prostars that are For Sale and you'll see my yellow 197 with a black and gray stripe at the waterline sitting on a black trailer. At least you'll be able to get an idea of whether or not you'll like it. Personally, this is my second yellow boat with black trailer and I wouldn't go any other way. It was just too much yellow with the trailer being yellow in my opinion.

Yellow trailer and black bimimi.

Yellow bimimi may look better, but may be hard to keep looking nice.

It is also hard to get an exact match on the yellow canvas. It is usually a little lighter in color that the hull.

Great point George!
My vote would be for a yellow trailer (as mentioned in my previous post) and Black bimini.

For color comparison, here's my boat...

The trailer color didn't matter to me, since the boat is only trailered twice a year and the trailer spends the entire summer hidden in the back part of my lot.

My bimini is yellow and does not match the yellow of the hull. It doesn't bother me at all, but I have people that do comment on it. I would not have gone with black though because it would most likely trap the heat, and you go under the bimin to get away from that a bit.

A buddy of mine had a black bimini on his Nautique, and it really was not that hot under it. Right up next to it, it would feel extra warm, but the bimini's now-a-days are higher than they use to be. By the way, this was in Central Florida, where it does get hot in the summertime. Also, I had a yellow boat with a white trailer, and it looked great, much better IMO than a yellow one.

I saw a white hull with black accents, trailer and bimini yesterday at TX MC. It was absolutely gorgeous. Extremely clean lines, almost elegant. It was the first boat in a very long time that really made me consider upgrading.

I think the black trailer shows off the boat more, but the yellow trailers I've seen posted so far look very nice. I think I may waffle back to a yellow trailer.

How hard is it to keep rock chips undercontrol on the yellow trailers. I would think that touch-ups would be hard to get a good color match?

Maybe someone with photo-shop skills can turn the trailer BLACK and add a bimini.

I'd go with a yellow bimini with a black stripe or accent in the middle, I think with solid black you would get too hot under it. :twocents:

i VOTE YELLO TRAILER BLACK BIMINI.
I have lights and barely use them. But with the amount of $$ you are spending on a new boat you might as well go with 4 lights

also if there is enough $$ left go with the tandem trailer. night and day when pulling single axle vs dual.

Broke out the spray paint in MS paint and put a coat on the trailer. Upgraded to new graphics on the boat while I was at it. ;)

Like a black vehicle, I think any chips/dirt will always show up the most on black ... as for the lights on the tower helping when you trailer ... not sure, but it is fun to run the boat at night with lights in both directions ... and the forward facing ones let you go a little faster:) I like the yellow with a white stripe on a yellow trailer:) Also, did you get the SS rub rail? If you go with the black rub rail then I would get the black stripe above the white, otheriwse I would get the white stripe and a SS rub rail (which is nice for on and off the trailer)

Be careful contrasting black and yellow too much.. You get a bumblebee look....

Trick boats have matching color trailers. PERIOD.

I just sold an X45 that was solid yellow. Very easy to keep clean and repair. Two lights are plenty. It lit up my dock like it was daytime.

Well, I might have a problem. Seems that they have moved up my build date without telling me and the dealer is telling me they will not accept any changes.

I'm happy it is being finished sooner, but a little pissed if something was not ordered correctly because I didn't have a chance to verify the order.

Is it normal for them to move build slots after ordering?

Seems they did not move up my build date, they just froze the order two weeks before the start date. (i.e., they haven't even started the boat or trailer yet)

This is the email I got back from Texas Mastercraft after they tried to change the trailer from black to yellow:
"Sorry Mike
As stated they don't let us change anything on an order 2 weeks before.I don't understand why.. when it's only a color, but they say if they do that then, where do they stop..I think Black will bring out the black stripe more on the boat. And will definately be easier to touch up later..Mark~~" :(

Yellow trailer is the way to go!

Maybe you could contact Greg Clower, Owner Relations Manager at MasterCRaft and he could help you out.

I'm in Flower Mound. It is on the north tip of the DFW area between Lake Lewisville and Grapevine lake.

I will give MC a call to see if they can help me out on the trailer color.

I sent a message to MC through the above thread starter's account.

By what number would you suggest contacting them?

I don't want to make a lot of calls/emails and become a pest. If I get a black trailer it will not be the end of the world, but it would definitely be an easy way for MC to get some cheap kudos for going "above and beyond" to please a customer. ;)

Mike,

Glad they could help you out. Jimmy and the crew is great. Can't wait to see that new toy. I was coming home from work tonight and saw a new sweet black x-star coming up 820 and he and I trade places in traffic many times. He came all the way up to the light at 2499 and 3040. Thought for a second it may have been you and that Jimmy made you an offer you couldn't refuse.
