See earlier post. I wanted to find out what everyone thought was a good price for an 86 Prostar w 351 Windsor (low hour rebuild) that had average to good paint and gel coat and average quality interior was worth. Boat does need new Powerslot tranny. Any opinions on value?

Also, does anyone have a checklist of items to check out on the boat?

With that info (relatively vague), Iím thinking 5-8K

I agree with Mark, 5000 to 8000 depending on condition. Remembering you will have to put in an additional $300 to $2000 to rebuild or replace the transmission.

i agree 5-8K. figure out the value it's worth, then subtract 1k-1100 for the tranny.

Wow! Sounds like I may have gotten a deal??? You tell me.

I recently purchased an '89 Tristar w/351 and velvet drive in excellent condition. Upholstery is in great shape w/no tears or even seams coming loose. Boat had 599 hours and starts, runs and shifts (no kidding) like new. Came with dual axle MC trailer in good condition, a BI Fly High extended pylon and a brand new anchor shade umbrella that's never been out of the sleeve.

Purchase price: $6,000 even. What do you all think? I know the TriStar is a little less desirable than the ProStar but I couldn't pass up the deal.

I wouldn't pay any more than 5k..

It needs a transmission work, how do you know that's all it needs.? you must not have been able to water test the boat since the tranny is toast..?? Unless you know the owner I'd be leary, and at the very least have it examined by a reputable dealer in the area. If the current owner isn't willing to allow you to do this, walk away..

In comparison I paid $7k for my '87 ps190 at the start of this season and it didn't need anything beyond a tune up..

Forgot to add:

Boat comes with 3 Fat Sacs (never opened) Fly High Pole, 4 Blade Prop (not sure what size, however the guy was a barefooter so I have some ideas) 500 hrs on engine, recent carb/ tuneup!! I can't wait!!

You got a smokin' deal. Trailer is worth 1K so you got the boat for $1500. I'd think it'd be worth that without a engine or tranny. Good luck!

I just sold my '85 S&S for $7300...

I would say the one described would bring close to 6k

You will never lose a dime on that boat.... period. For the price you paid $(2500) even with a tranny repair or rebuild, you are way ahead of the game from a financial standpoint. Have fun, you stole that boat!! :woohoo:
