We moved into our house 2 years ago and just finished a glass block bar :friday: in our basement and wanted to get ideas on how others have decorated their basements / garages with keeping a waterski theme.

We have a ton of old skis that we plan on hanging from the ceiling. Also have some old signs, etc.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Hope to get some pics up next week.

we finished our basement up with an old barn look, got deer antlers on the wall, and old rough cut barn siding we put up on the walls, we got from an old barn we tore down a few years back...got the old metal signs, old saws hanging up, lanterns, you know the ole time look....really cool all we need is a pool table to go along with the bigscreen.

Where is the kegerator from? I am looking into buying one or just converting an old fridge. Still a tossup.

LTS; it's a Marvel Model 61HK. The original owner installed it. I think this one is around $1700. Looks nice, and I have two CO2 tanks, but have not used it yet. Even a 1/4 keg is ~$45 at ~7.75 gallons, the price is close to can beer, so it has to be something you and a bunch of people like! Full keg is $60-$65. The main safety thing is to make sure you fasten the full CO2 tanks down. Can take your air away so to speak.

It's a 65" Hitachi Ultravision. We really enjoy it, especially when the program is broadcast in HD. We also enjoy concert DVD's with the sound system. When I crank it, you are there!
How about Leroy's bar and media room! (very nice) ;)

Thanks Brian, I was scanning Ebay for old wooden skis and bought couple pair, but never got something that I thought was quality to hang at the bar like I hoped. I really would like to have a ski/sports atmosphere in the bar.

Still vanilla in Indy.....

Leroy, so when is the house warming party?

When I lived in Hawaii I lived with 3 other guys in a house (not really nice). We had a bar we built, and hung about 20 surf boards from the ceiling. It was pretty cool. I'll have to dig through my pictures I think I have one somewhere.

Big fan of giant TVs. My third child, behind the boat and the kegerator, is a Mitsubishi 55" HD Theaterwide TV. Geek that I am, I just got the original Star Wars trilogy on Tuesday and have been watching it with the digital sound cranked way too high. Love the THX part!

Mr. JimN, it is the Joe Satriani live in San Francisco DVD. try to see him perform whenever he visits Chicago and this DVD captures his best.

I have an old Connelly Hook hanging over my my tv in the game room. I also found 2 old wood jumpers and made them into a shelf for my son's room. It would work great in a bar! We also had a chick paint his walls as a day at the lake. it starts on one side as morning with a guy taking a jump set and goes around to boats sailing into a sunset. it also would work great in a game room. i will try and post some pics!

Just got done framing most of the home theater/bar. My buddy and I ran about 160 2x4s up in two days last week. The sofits I finished this weekend. I have to give it to carpenters...my muscles were sore from all the stretching and overhead lifting. Anyway....here is a couple pics. I framed out the far wall to hold my 52" JVC flush and then add in-wall JBLs. The bar will be as you come down the stairs and will a 45degree L. I am still trying to figure out what the bar back will look like. But in one corner I am building in a booth for cards, etc... I wanted a urinal in the bathroom, but got shot down.

Great idea Maristar...I needed to figure out what to clean the brass foot rails with.
:)

I actually was trying to get my wife to sign off on the Urinal to paint it half green with a UofM sticker at the bottom to pee on. It would go over very well here in Bucky World. I do have a ton of MSU items and pics to hang up.

when I was a kid, we had this one room that had a glass block wall...
we goofed around with a colored light wheel and made some pretty cool effects

Got some pics...basement is "in process" as just finalizing the second panel for the electric and then start drywall. Not finished with the bar top, bar rail or bar position until the wiring is done.

It's hard to finish up some of the projects when we use the basement as much as we do.

We are about 50% done with wiring the basement as we added a second panel for the added toys I hope to get some day (for the basement and back yard. Hopefully the wiring will get done in the next month or so and then we'll probably start on the drywall.

We can't really finish the bar top and bar rail, etc. until the bar gets moved back against the wall. So it's like trying to finish a big puzzle...and parts of the puzzle are not really in the budget right now.

I do have a ceiling project that I will be working on and will probably will need some help from Erkle...now where's his number!?

W4T,

No, it's actually a shelf for the stereo. I ran a separate 15amp line just for the stereo equipment that sits above the bar. I hate having things on the floor such as a stereo cabinet, etc. So we mounted the stereo above the bar. That way, if you are behind the bar, you can adjust the volume, change CDs, etc. The one we made now is temporary until we get the bar moved back against the wall, then it will basically go the length of the bar with lightning underneath.

Rocky, damn that looks great! Have you thought about using a beadboard panel instead of drywall? It would be a WHOLE lot less work and not make near the mess that drywall is gonna make when you start finishing it. Once its up, you could either leave it natural or stain it, then you're done! No sanding, painting, or massive dust cleanup! An added benefit too would be that you won't have to use wall anchors to hang things.
