What's wrong with teak for that matter. :D

I agree with you Eastie! Bust out the sander and some oil!!! Why has there been such an increase in demand for fiberglass? As Ron Burgandy would say, "there is nothing like the smell of rich mahogony... i mean teak!!"

Fiberglass platforms might look good in the short term, however they are very prone to scratching (metal ski/wakeboard fins) the work of wet sanding, buffing and polishing them far out weighs the work of a teak platform.

You guys & the teak....... always amazes me.
Over the years, we've had multiple boats with teak & glass steps. Both get scarred up. And the teak has to be sanded & reoiled multiple times each year or it fades to white in the sun. Plus if your boat lives in the water for very long, you get mold between all the boards.
I don't do squat to the glass ones & they look fine year after year. Cover it with something like the thick rubber or Traxx & then maybe do it again in 5 years or so. Yea, the gelcoat gets scratched up a bit, but nothing you can see from 6' or 8' away.

Not mine. It gets the full treatment in the spring and that lasts until the next year. I touch up with more oil on occasion, but that's it.

Then again, my goal isn't to make it look like furniture. I stand on the thing with my ski so what would be the point. I just want it to have a nice golden hue and get some protection from the elements.

Yea, but how often does your boat see the water? Mine sees it once........ from April till October. And after 5 days in the sun & water, it's bleached white. If there is weight in the boat, the swimstep is underwater & molding.
Your swimstep looks great, Doug. I wish I could get mine to look that good for more than a few days.

Oh, it's garaged big time and no ballast to get it too wet. Even when we're at the lake overnight, it's either trailered or on the lift. It probably hasn't spent more than a few nights overnight in the water since I've owned it.

For you, my friend, glass platform makes a great deal of sense.
