View Full Version : Spring (snow) skiing in Tahoe

How is it? A friend does an annual easter ski trip to Tahoe - last year was great because Easter was so early but this year it's mid-April. How is it going to be? I've never gone to avoid injury for the upcoming water ski season but this year I'm planning on going, then putting the boat in the water immediately upon returning home. This year's resort of choice is Kirkwood BTW.

We try to get out to Tahoe every spring. I have been there in April when some runs at Heavenly are closed (like gun barrel). But I have also had some great spring skiing. I have not been to Kirkwood, but we love to go to Squaw and to Mt Rose. And of course Heavenly.

Last year we went a litlle earlier than usual but when I have been out there in April you can ski in a tee shirt and shorts. Some girls ski in bikini tops. If you've never experienced this type of skiing I highly recommend it. We are heading to Colorado in two weeks and then out to Tahoe in mid March this year.

Growing up I have skied many April days in Tahoe. Depends on the year but usually the skiing is fun that late but definately different. Icy in the morning and slushy after noon. Take some short and a short sleeved shirts and LOTS OF SUNSCREEN! Mostly just a time to enjoy the sun and do some cruisers.

Lucky you!

I noticed last year the locals start tiring of skiing by then so the crowds are down some. During the day the snow will be pretty soft.

Note avg high temp. http://www.weather.com/activities/recreation/outdoors/weather/climo-monthly-graph.html?locid=96161

Thanx Leroy and all. I don't plan on doing much more than stated enjoying the sun and doing some cruisers. Shorts? Well probably not, I snow ski with full hardware on my knees to hopefully prevent ACL repair #3...
