Never heard this before:confused:

"This is the sort of thing that could happen only in Tulsa," spoke Lewis Roberts Jr. during dedication ceremonies marking the observance of Tulsa's Golden Jubilee Week. "TuIsarama!" chairman Roberts' made his remarks as citizens prepared to entomb a new 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe as part of a time capsule buried on the southeast corner of the Tulsa County Courthouse lawn.

Lots of talk about this on the Mopar site.... One of the guys dad was there when it got buried...

Controversy on whether it will be a rusted pile of junk or in fairly good shape... I think there will be a pretty good crowd there..

Its a gearhead thing........

I thought this part was cool.

The lucky person who in 1957 correctly guessed what Tulsa, Oklahoma's population would be in 2007 is destined to win the brand-new 1957 Belvedere Sport Coupe sealed in a time capsule beneath Tulsa's courthouse. Photos courtesy of Chrysler Historical Foundation.

I will also assume it will be completely rotted. There are tranquilizers in the glove box, cool....

If they had basements in Oklahoma, they would have known that it was likely to crack and leak. They're going to try starting it after the water was as high as the top of the windows? I doubt anything in that motor will move at all.

Upper Michigan Prostar190

By looking at the pics on the net, it looks like the top of the vault were just conrete slabs laid on the top of a box. I would have thought they would have actually poured concrete to form the top in effort to seal it better. But I suppose they didnt have very good methods of sealing a concrete vault in 1957. Its hard to think in terms of what they had available then. Too bad it leaked like that. Bummer they just didnt put the valut above ground behind the court house or something. :twocents:

Things like this remind me of this old Porsche legand concerning a Porsche 356 A(I believe) known to be delivered to a wealthy cuban shortly before Castro took power.

The owner who was going to lose his wealth decided to bury the car in a hillside after taking care to wrap the car securely.

His assumption is that the car would last long enough to see the end of Castro and he would return to retrieve his auto.

Now the paper trail does exist somewhat in that there was a Porshe shipped to Cuba, at the right time, and the guy did leave cuba. The man died, and now there is debate amongst purists what it would be like if the car could be discorvered, unwrapped and have a timecapsule 356A in very good condition with literally 500 miles on the clock. The value of which, and the story would make the car astronomically expensive in the world of collector Porsche's.

The issue being there is no proof the man buried it, just speculation.

And I assume no matter how carefully the burial occured, it is now a pile of rust surrounding a ruined boxer engine.

now easy rick.

this year is the oklahoma 100 years of statehood, thus why they did this 50 years ago with the plan of being able to open it up during the states celebrations.

oh and by the way i heard a interview yesterday after they opened it up that the company that provided the concrete said they didn't think it would work but there were other options $$$$ that would work better. needless to say the city of tulsa decided to go the cheap route.

This all started with the "Tulsarama Fest. and a contest about who can guess what Tulsa's population will be in 2007 when the car is dug up and it goes like this : Tulsarama festival in 1957 burying a brand-new Chrysler car in a time capsule that's supposed to be unearthed in 2007. Whoever has the closest guess to Tulsa's population in 2007 wins the car. If that person is dead, the heirs get the car. That's what this website says.........
