Anybody have any experience with New Dimension towers? A buddy is looking buying one for his 2004 197 and was told that New Dimension built them for MasterCraft at one time. Is that true?

True as far as I know. I've heard nothing but good things about their towers here.

Wayne Hartford, owner and president is traveling around at some of the boat shows and is having a boat show special on towers and accessories.

He seems like a great guy and helped me out with a knob problem. His website is www.newdimensiontowers.com (http://www.newdimensiontowers.com) and his email is whartford@dimensiontowers.com . Telephone 865 856 0608

They've made a lot of other towers to fit numerous boats; older MCs and other brands.
Good luck!

They aren't the same as a zeroflex but they look good.
Here are a couple of reference pics.
I never heard that ND sold towers to MC but maybe they did????

Not 110% but...
I was under the impression that Wayne Hartford (owner of ND) actually developed the Zero Flex towers and built them for MC before selling the Company. He then started ND specifically to build custom towers for the used boat market.

Again, I'm not 110% sure, but I think that's correct.

Ric,

Other than the ski tow mount, what differences do you see?

Ric,

Hard to tell exactly from my pics but other than the neat machined aluminum tow pivot point, the ND tower has less cross bracing near the top and the center plate appears different on each side.

The Zeroflex has a thick machined plate on each side that is not only decorative, but works in conjunction with the MC Zeroflex board & ski racks that are also machined parts & clamp the skis rather than strap them with a bungee.

I dont know firsthand but rodlt complained of his ND flexing and or rattling? My zeroflex does not.

Half the differences I see are cosmetic like the material being a bit less polished or brite on the ND.

NOTHING against the ND tower. Alot of folks say they are the same but they don't look the same. I think you can save a ton by getting the ND tower though.

i think they were about the same with the earlier zeroflex towers. looks like zeroflex changed a little bit. i didnt have any problems with mine, it was quite an improvement from the tower i had on my mb sports
( universal tower) . my tower however was rarely used for towing wakeboarders.

For those who have installed a New Diminsion tower, what did you do about using your original cover, if anything, and was anyone able to continue using their original bimini?

i used my original cover. i had a friend of mine cut holes and add velcro to make it work.

Took mine to an upholstry shop, who charged me $40 to modify the cover & drawstring to fit around the tower.

hokie, if yours is a mastercraft bimini with those round feet that pop into clamps on the deck, then those feet would mount nicely onto the tubing of the ND tower. The feet for the MC bimini on the zeroflex tower have a radiused bottom surface to seat nicely onto the tower tubing structure
(see my slightly legible pic in post#11)

I have ND tower for my PS 190 that I have yet to install, but given that my cover and bimini are practically new, I plan on taking both to an upholstery shop after the tower's on and have them mod the cover and bimini to fit. I will cut down the width of the bimini frame and mount it and have them cutdown and sew up the cover.
It only cost $100 to have my orig bimini recovered and a travel cover made for it, so I'm estimating around $100 to do the mods to the existing stuff.

I spoke to Wayne for over an hour about his towers. Yes he built the second generation zero flex towers(they look like his new ones)There are minor cosmetic differences but my understanding is that he built better jigs for his new towers, which in turn means better fitting parts and less binding issues for folding.I will be ordering some of his new towers for the shop so I can check them out. He also supplies pre-drilled backing plates, kitty hair fiberglass and resin for installing the backing plates.(and instructions) I would definetly recommend his tower over any other after market universal tower for your MC

You may ask the dealer if they have any of the 2004 towers around. When I got my 2002 209 last year, I was talking to several dealers looking for used 209's and all of them had the MC towers. I lucked out in that the dealer I ended up buying through had a 2004 tower which has the clamping (vs bungee) board racks, which are awesome. Just my 2 cents.

Thrall, do you think width of the bimini will be the only problem-not height? How will you cut down the width? Also, will you mount it directly to the tower or still mount it where it was before?

my bimini was a windshiled mount so the tower made no diffrence. if you have that type of bimini i would wait and mount it to the tower .

I would love to get a ND tower for my 205, but at 2,400 bones, I'll save my money for a used 197 or X-7 with a tower in a few years.

Of all the towers out there I think the ND looks the best by far.

wow, looks by far better than the zeroflex? See, the appearance was the one thing I felt the zeroflex had over all of the aftermarket fabber.

I just like the SERIOUS attention to detail in the machinework on the zeroflex compared to the ND's I have seen. As far as zeroflex for older models (pre 2002) maybe they are the same??

Just had the guys at the MC shop install an ND tower on my 96 Maristar. There was a PS in the shop with a ZF tower on it next to my boat; my tower had virtually no shake to it, where the ZF tower had alot. The new ND towers have two mounting bolts on each end where the ZF only had one, thus a much sturdier feel.

It looked much better on the boat than we expected.

I'm getting a new cover, and slots with zippers will be added to accomodate the tower. The bimini is now too wide, so it'll be narrowed by an upholstery shop.

I got my bimini from towerbiminis.com. They did an awesome job and matched the colors of my boat perfectly. The bimini looks original I think.

Yes, ND makes both. Great quality, not much cheaper than local dealer on OEM tower if they are willing to deal a little and get the original. ND does make great stuff and cannot go wrong if local dealer not willing to step up. www.mymastercraft.com sells the mini tower OEM for $1995 plus freight...not sure about the zeroflex flyer. I spent a great deal of time looking at ND and OEM and ended up going OEM for about $200 more because I wanted to use the factory tower racks instead of the bungie chorded version ND offers. Hope this helps
