water in the hull????? Maybe too many new cabinets on the port side.:D

A little bid of balast, or a few sand bags on the other side should do the trick...

Mag_Red
01-23-2006, 07:30 PM
Way back when the boat was widened by a foot on each side. The thought is there is a leak somewhere on the catwalk that is allowing water into this cavity. The rest of the hull is dry. Shouldn't be too bad, but it was nice of them to call and tell me.

God Bless the SS Minnow. If its sprung a leak what the heck do you do? Can you weld if from the inside out or do you have to pull it from the water?

How 'bout a hand pump? :D

At what marina are you located? It's rare for anyone at the dock, especially this time of year, to even notice, let alone call you. That's a good job.

Is the hull of such a big houseboat divide in many compartments or is it like a boat hull?
Would the water sit in the middle or stay on the side that's leaking? Souldn't the bilge pump kick in?
Never been on such a "floating Palace"! :D

The hull usually is divided in a few water tight sections each having a seperate bilge pump. My boat was widened by a foot on each side. When they did this they apparently didn't install a pump.

That is a sharp TriStar, DrNautica. Any more pictures of it and what kind of a tower is that? I've been contemplating putting one on my TriStar but I'm very picky about the styling. I have seen a TriStar with a Monster Tower but I don't like the looks of it.

Danimal,

Thanks. This boat belongs to my two sons 12 & 16. They love it and after getting what I thought was a pretty good deal, they decided to add the tower. It is a New Dimensions custom tower that, in my humble opinion, is head and shoulders above any universal or semi-custom tower. Wayne Hartford at New Dimension was great to work with. I had intended to install the tower while the boat was on our lift but, Wayne had built and shipped the original tower which was made for an open bow TriStar and it did not fit. After a quick phone conversation we discovered that he had never patterned a closed bow model TriStar so I agreed to meet him halfway between our Lake and his shop (about 100+ miles) and he took it with him to make it right. He had it two weeks and then we again met him halfway to pick it up. I got the tower installed for free + plus a few other options thrown in (like tower speakers which I still eed to mount) so I felt he treated me (and the boys) right.

The tower is an exact fit, does not flex, and looks like it came with the boat. Not exactly cheap, but hey, you only go around once, twice if your good.

I'll be happy to post a couple more shots.

Another view

A cool feature is the optional lighted ski tow. No more messin' with a removable anchor/stern light.

We do a lot of communication via VHF radio as well and Wayne custom fabricated a VHF mount using one of his clamshell type speaker mount clamps which will allow my to mount a 3' stainless whip VHF antenna on top of the tower and still fold it down (across the tower) if needed.

Very clean look and we are very pleased with it. Most people have commented on the exactness of the flow of the tower mounting legs which match perfectly to the lines of the windshield frame.

just keep in mind....
you're dealing with some pretty conservative members here.
Also, it's been pointed out many times this is MasterCraft's website and they want it to remain a place where family & children can attend and not have to worry about them.

.............then some 12 year olds are more privileged than others:o

it's all good, this board does a great job in policing itself, and other members will let you know where the line is, and when it's stepped over.

then there's the wild winter nights to contend with..... winter gets sooooo long:(

Ok, just got off the phone with Mag....the boat is still afloat. :D Apparently the leak was in the catwalks on the sides of the boat. It had filled to the waterline, but he was able to drill a hole  in the one side to get it drained. The boat is now sitting level at the marina again :woohoo:

He is working on the cabinets and other projects. Has to get the boat ready for the big fiesta! However he did say that the lake is up about 15 feet , and there is alot of logs and debris in the water

JEREMY79
