View Full Version : Does your boat have name???

All my other boats have had names on the transom, but I notice that the inboards never have a name. As I'm in enough trouble with the SO right now :D , I don't want to do anything else stupid right now :purplaugh

I've heard that it is bad luck to name a comp boat of any kind (bass, or ski etc...)

I personally don't believe in that mumbo jumbo. My boat's name is "Tucked Away in Carolina". It's after our two dogs: Tucker and Carolina. The name isn't on the transom yet, but it's on the list of projects for the winter.

My old boats name was the "Thank you (ex wife)".... I got the boat in our divorce and she thought she should get more, and tried to reopen the divorce ( god I miss her) to get the boat.. After that I mailed a pic of all my friends holding a beer in front of the boat, with the new name, to her..... I am sure she misses me also......

I have told this story on here before, but I really enjoy it alot.....

Mag_Red; Now how could you go wrong with a simple boat name. ;)

Jerseydave
09-13-2004, 09:44 PM
First boat (16 ft. outboard) had no name
Second boat (1978 Challenger jet BB chevy) was "Instigator"
Third boat (1988 Ski Eliminator) was "Instigator II"
Fourth boat (1994 Prostar) was "Instigator III" but I never put the name on the boat. I didn't want to remove the Mastercraft off the transom.

Fifth boat (1997 Formula) was "Liquid obsession"
Sixth and present boat (1994 Formula 303SR-1) is "Tenacious"
(Boat is currently for sale)

Next boat will be a 230 Maristar, named "Tenacious 2", but I may not put the name on it. I may, however take "Maristar" off the sides.

We had boat names on the old forum.. maybe they should be here?

This is still one of my favorites..

After that you get an error message if the file is too big. Then see the Tutorial on the homepage on "image editing" to reduce the file size so you can post it. It's tricky until you do it then this is a very nice system.

Take it easy Chief. We had been through this debacle a while back by our resident super hero. Poll Starter (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=6898)

There were not very many people on the board that felt it appropriate to name a MasterCraft anything other that it's god given name from Vonore or Maryville depending on its linage.

sheesh... why does this subject get ppl so wound? If you want to name your boat name it... if you don't ... don't but how bout some slack and tolerance eh?

I think most on here would agree that their boat is a big part of their life / lifestyle. What is wrong with adding some personal expression to that?

I see a ton of small lake boats with names, many of them fun and interesting, some creative, some not, but most often a representation of the owner.

And yes I put a name on mine. If someone has to ask why the name or what it means it probably needs more work. I like to think the name I put on is self explanatory, covers the boat and the ppl in it and gives credit where credit is due.

the informal name our family calls it is "Finally" as in finally have a real boat that can pull us skiing and is an inboard and not an IO. Never named the MC, just stuck with "MasterCraft." Nothing beats the reaction you get when folks ask what kind of boat you have:

me - "A MasterCraft"

them - "oh. . . .wow" or similar.

If only my boarding skills drew that sort of response. . . .

I am still in the process of restoring a boat. In the beginning of our ownership it was called the "Dam Boat". i.e. "Honey, now I need to buy a new ________ for the DAM BOAT". You can fill in the blank with any part, because I think I have bought every part or soon will. I have a different name for the previous owner, but I will save it for the bad previous owners name thread. We love the boat and always wanted a MasterCraft. We are already talking about buying a newer one in the near future. I am a superstitious soul and feel it is bad luck to name a ski boat, but if I did, it might be "Wake N Shake".:D

Other than "Dad's mid-life crisis" we refer to the boat as "Ragdoll" (as in what you look like skipping accross the water when you "ragdoll"). But, we didn't put it on the boat. Seems taboo for ski boats.

I have always thought a good name for a wakeboarding boat would be "Wake Up" but I too am not so inclined to name a little ski boat. I'll leave that to the river rat flatbottoms(which do amuse me) and the much bigger(and white) boats Sodar speaks of!

Well i have to put my little part in this. I was told by an old salt one time that you are supposed to name your boat after a woman, he continued to tell me it is best to name it after your mother, grandmother, or sister. Those are the only ones that will not change! But i have to go another route and name my stars and stripes "REHAB". It is so true!

We have never offically named a MasterCraft. Every now and then one will come into the
dealership w/ a name. The most recent one is a 2007 MC X-2 "Don't ask twice" He used to own a Moomba.

Larry Holt, who some of you know. Used to own a 88 PS 190 from the Gardens. The colors where TEAL AND WHITE. We nick named it "GUMBY AND MAYO" He had a key chain w/ "Gumby" on it.
Very appropriate for that color scheme or was that his girlfriends name. Can't quite remember.
