It used to be... Now it's passed around more than a joint at a Dave Matthews concert. ;)

Valentine Blatz opened his brewery in 1851, and married the widow of his ex-employer in 1852, acquiring Johann Braun's City Brewery in La Crosse, Wisconsin witch was renamed to Blatz. By 1900, Blatz was Milwaukee's third-largest brewery. The Blatz Brewery Complex was bounded by Broadway, Highland, Juneau Avenue and Market Street. Although Blatz Brewing was the first Milwaukee brewer to go national, the Blatz Brewery was forced to close in 1959, and the Blatz label was sold to Pabst. Heileman purchased the Blatz label in 1969 after Pabst's anti-trust problems. In 1996, Stroh's bought Heileman, continuing most of their production.

NO, Don't tell me you played the "BLATZ CARD" :headbang:

Isn't "blatz" the sound you make after eating a good hot mexican dinner?

The tower should be yellow or purple to match the boat, not black. Shows lack of taste...

Nah... I knew that they have been bought and sold quite a bit so I did a quick Google search. You can still find plenty of Blatz memorabilia around here at rummage sales. Really cool old stuff for the re-room bar.

We used to drink Blatz and Hamms in college. I cringe just thinking about it

My old neighbor used to work for a beer distributor in Canton, Oh. When I was younger I used to go over and help him out with different things, such as clean out his garage, etc. Anyway, as payment he used to give me beer signs. As a kid, I thought this was the coolest thing ever. Well, the distributor carried Pabst, Blatz, St. Pauli Girl, and Red White & Blue as well as some other off brands...Haams, etc. Well, guess what signs I used to get.....you guessed it, BLATZ :toast: . I still have about 3 or 4 Blatz beer signs and 1 or 2 Pabst signs. He would never give me a St. Pauli Girl sign. I guess he thought my mom would get mad because there was always cleavage on those signs.

Sorry to "jack the thread" but I thought it might be a while before Blatz was brought back up on this board and I just couldn't wait to brag about my awsome beer signs.

correct me if i am wrong, but did miller not have a sign a long time ago, say 60's, that had a little light that went down hill like it was skipping along hill tops and down to valleys. not sure i expalined it right, but this is my all time favorite beer display. also, if you have one of these is am jealous.
