How big of lake is it, and does everyone bring their boat?

Give me an idea of what to expect if I could make it.

How big of lake is it, and does everyone bring their boat? The Lake is huge! over 50,000 acres. It would take hours to go from one end to the other. It's really just a bunch of skiers getting together for some water sports, drinking, and eating. :woohoo: As far as your boat.....bring it if you want but there will be a good assortment of MC models to get a pull from.

W4T, last Sept we kinda' gathered up boats as they were offered up but I see the local guys (myself included at 115 miles away) will have a much easier time bringing boats. We had 5 available to us and that was enough to accommodate the one slalom course and the adjacent body of water. If we can get that amount again (and maybe one or two more at most) IMHO that is plenty.

What you can expect if you don't make it is ridicule on the forum and a good time that you missed. Life is short... enjoy it every chance... :wavey:
The water will still be cool in May and a little warmer two weeks later.

I voted for the June date.

I can work with either weekend, but May is a busier month. In May, the drysuit comes w/ in June it stays home. Thats the only difference for me!

I will say that if the May date is choosen, it would be nice to know sooner than later as it will require me to have 3 weekend off in a row and that will take some coordination and bribes.

There will be plenty of boats there. If we have too many it would be a waste and could have a docking problem at night.

Well, if we take a rough guess of 10 people actually showing up there shouldn't be a need for more boats than last year.

How many people actually made it out last year? And there were 5 boats?

How many footers have you done behind it? Ever really tested out the max of that boat?

I have only done 2 w/ my 190 and same engine, but that really didn't "push" the engine all that much.

Footin
01-16-2006, 07:55 PM
Just one long line so far. It pulled my 220 pound arse out pretty well with the stock prop. Now with the acme, 2 should not be a problem.

One thing to remember is: how many long line footers are usually around anyway.

I am a pretty big guy, and if the driver doesn't know what they are doing, they can truly rip it right through my arms.

Usually when we go out, there is a max of 3 or 4 people in the boat, and with a driver and observer it doesn't leave many footers to get out there.

Last season, when I was skiing with Northern Illinois Unniversity we were pretty commonly doing doubles, and anybody we could talk into doing triples we'd get em out there. Never actually got the third person up though. At one time, we were getting anybody out there to try, so we had me and one other guy doing deep ups and one guy doing a step off. It never worked, myself and Brit from the board got up each time deep water, but the third guy never got the step off.

We gotta get Mag and JR out there with us!!! How many footers were down there last year? Was it just you that could long line?

Just to help answer some of your questions, from what I have learned there are cabins right across the street from the marina, and there is plenty of dock space at the marina for boats. Mag has a house boat and his 209 at the marina, and I believe they had 4-5 other MC's there last year w/ plenty of room.

Sounds like all the rooms on the house boat maybe spoken for, but like I said there are cabins across the street that a couple TMC members stayed in last year. They had a great view of a wide variety of things

Come on down, it is a long weekend of skiing, drinking, and hanging out w/ friends.

You know, I think that the family thing would be nice. I know that my wife and kids would like to take a drive to see Cumberland.
If so, I might want to take the boat but it's about a 6-7 hour drive with a boat for me.
Sounds like we should get the cottages reserved early if it's in June.
I'll talk to Mrs. and see what she thinks.

Pilot, if your bringing the course, you shouldn't have to bring a boat....there sounds like a bunch of people with 190/197 will be there. Plus, there are people that don't have to come through the mountains towing anything, I have no problem towing, kind of got used to it with our property up in Northern WI. I expect to have to tow something just about each trip up there and that is a good 6 hour drive. Whether its the snowmobiles in the winter, or the boat in the summer I always have a trailer full of toys :D

I have to vote no on this. I'd rather see us just all get together on our dime and enjoy ourselves with no strings attached. In all reality the trip is very cheap for us all. If a dealer wanted to bring down a demo boat thats cool IMO but I don't want my weekend turning into a 3 day sales pitch on buying a new boat. That being said I hope that some dealers like Mike in Charlotte are able to make the trip for the sheer comraderie of the event.

We just need to know which date is going to have the most TMC members??? When is everyone going to be down there?

Was thinking about this this morning. I may try and attend both dates if the wife and little one will agree to it

We are only going to make the drive down once, so we are trying to figure out which date will be the most "fun"???

I'll be in Maine that week in June, so it would definetly have to be the May date for me as well.

Come on guys........the date is fast approaching. Looks like the remodel will be finished on schedule. I'm going down both dates! :firejump: On a sad note, for those that attended the first Mag Mania, .........Dale has pulled out and moved his houseboat to The State Dock :( So I guess it will be safe for all the "Masterlock boats" :D

Driving - You want to meet up and ride together?

We can probably get Pilot02 in on it and split the gas 3 ways.

And at 2.50 + a gallon we will need to do that.

Pilot's thinking both dates at the moment but only taking a boat once. What's the nearest small airport up there?? Anyone, anyone??
LP, did you go to the race yesterday?

LakePirate
03-21-2006, 10:58 AM
Didn't make it to the race yesterday...too much going on at work.
Didn't go on sunday...nobody to go with, as the infamous Cherry Blossom Festival is in town here in Macon.

TiVoed it...how about that 43 car leading some laps...under green.

If need be I can take my boat when I go.

I was thinking I'd take my boat the first date because the master's is the next weekend and then I've got a scout trip planned on the 10th. Which date were you planning? I don't have to take mine.... Will have the son in tow though.

I am going on the first weekend. Going to Charlotte for the Coca-cola 600 Memorial day weekend. It does not matter to me, I can tow or not.

Don't know if wifey is going or not. Probably will want to go, as she is going to Cali Memorial day weekend.

It's just a recommendation but maybe for the guys who have more of a drive ahead of them might want to leave their boats at home and save some gas money and time. There are quite a few of us that are planning on going that are more "local" and I'd think between the locals we could round up enough boats. It's just a suggestion and really doesn't matter to me, just might be a convenience for those that have a drive ahead of them to get to the shindig.

Pilot, can we talk you into bringing the course again this year?

Oops, didn't see that, that might put a cabosh on the bringing the course. That'd be cool if you flew yourself in though!

ok, I'll check that out. Maybe I'll fly up one morning and just spend the night for the second date. I need a Cincinnati sectional. Atlanta only goes to just above Knoxville. Should have gotten one yesterday when we were mingling with the pilot's for the race crews. Took my son into the restricted area at the track and talked to Eearnhardt's crew as well as Eberham racing since I was "legal" to be on the flightline. Was really funny listening to the people at the line as they watched my son and I cross and they couldn't.. I'll have to see if I can post some pics... It was just cruel... ;-P

I plan to bring the course for the first date, most likely with my boat which will look quite different from last trip. Course won't fit in the convertible, or a C-172, so don't expect it on the second date.

Griff

Sporty, you still coming for the Master's?

I will be at the first date and I plan on bringing the 205.

Anyone driving more than 3 or 4 hours should leave there boats at home. It's not worth it just to have YOUR boat there IMHO.

As of right now I am only good for the 2nd weekend, the 20th is our annual Lake Burton ski weekend. If something changes I will let you know...so either way I will be skiing on the 20th.

Footin, For the most part I agree with ya, but if I do bring the course, that means bringing the truck and at that point, there's not much difference in bringing the boat. Plus, what about them calendar pics for 2007??? :-)
