Guys it finally happened. I am selling my truck to get an SUV. But it keeps the wife happy :o We are looking for one of the three, Escalade, Tahoe, yukon. I know they are all pretty much the same truck but have any of you had any experiance with any of them. Especially the Escalade?
Gonna miss my truck

To put it in short, the yukon and tahoe are identical. Both have models like the Z71 and Denali, which offer upgrades such as all wheel drive, upgraded interior and a bigger motor. As for the Escalade, it is the Cadillac of tahoes and yukons. It has an obviously diffferent look, and I beleive a larger motor.

Are you looking at new or used? If you are looking at used, I would wait a few months until the new body style comes out, at that time the current style will severely drop in value and you could get a better deal.

Just my opinion.

i went through all of this last month, but ended keeping my truck after we had floods , i liked having the 35" bfg's too get through.

the yukon and denali have a nicer grill and inside then the tahoe. the denali has all wheel drive and a 6.0 motor, and more bling factor. the tahoe z71 although nice, is more af an offroad truck than the denali. the escalade is pretty much the same as the denali with just a tad more bling. myself, i ended up making the deal on the denali

i havent seen the 07's by the way.

Yes, the cadillacs are stolen more.;)
The GMC IMO has the Best grill/front end.
(Especially the '07's ready to be delivered to a dealer near you!!)
Cadi. I "think" has a 10 year 100K warranty, but I could be wrong, I forgot to ask when I was there a few weeks ago.
I like the service dept. of the GMC better here, they have more truck friendly stalls so I tend to get in and out quicker. (NO REPAIRS TO DATE, only Reg Maint.)
The cadi dealer I think only had a few stalls they could fit a truck in. Ironically they are a Hummer dealer "for now" so I am sure things get tight in that shop.
GMCs tend to have more "beauty" lines, which is all I can account the normally higher prices on.
You have picked the BEST 3 SUVs to pick from in the world IMHO. I'd love to hear what you decide.

I have been looking at used ones lately, the other day I looked at a 2003 Z71 Suburban 4x4, LOADED with 31,000 miles and it was $24,000.
Not bad considering the origianl sticker price was probably around 50K.

I'd start with the test of which drivers seat is more comfortable, also, I thought there was a traction controll feature that was available on the yukon & escalade, but not on the tahoe (that was a few years back so I am not sure) ... do either of them allow you to put the windows for the 2nd seat passengers all of the way down?

edit ... different warranty lengths?

I'm not sure there's much difference between the two in terms of standard and optional equipment (same engine, tranny, interior features), but IIUC, the Escalade is rather more expensive. If you're pricing Escalades, price and compare Denali Yukons too.

The Escalade uses the same Vortec 6000 engine that's been in the Denalis for years. In fact, I think the Escalade is just a Denali with a somewhat uglier grille (YMMV) and a higher price tag.

the 1999 and 2000 Escalade were/are very simmilar to the Denali
The standard engine in 2000 was a 5.7L 255hp engine

They skipped 2001 - new platform, and introduced the 2002 early.

The 2002 AWD version had the 6.0L 345hp engine.

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/default.aspx?make=Cadillac&model=Escalade&src=LeftNav

The 02 Denali had the 6.0L, but with 320 hp

The 2000 had the 5.7L 255 hp
The 2001 (new and current body style) 6.0L 320 hp

I have a problem with the 06 Denali pickup. You can only get it in crew cab and as a result, it only comes with a 5 foot bed. I don't need the full rear seats, don't want 4 full doors, and I need a 6 foot bed.

yukon and tahoe are the manufactured on the same line. the gmc just seems to have a higher price tag. the caddy is the same as the yukon denali.. just paying for the name and the extra plastic on the outside. all of them hold their value as good as a Tige boat! try a land rover... just bought one... fine piece of machinery!

It is a totally new platform but still a ladder frame. Sorry W4T but it is IFS (coilovers) but at least it's still got a solid axle. I read a glowing review today from someone on AOL I think but I can't find the link now. Pics don't do it justice, it looks better in person. It seems your right. Mostly in the grey family. I think all of my GMs had grey now that I think about it. I guess all the Fords too. Hmmm.... Is it because I like it, or because thats all that was offered. I wonder. My new truck I just got has grey... I never really thought about that until now. 3 trucks all grey interiors.

I have it good in that respect. My wife could really care less what she drives. This last time around the only thing she said was she didn't want an SUV which is a good thing if you have ever ridden in a car with her. :eek3:

I bought the car I wanted and she drives it. She has actually told me this time around that she really likes her car. She says it is the first car she actually thinks about as more than just transportation to and from. Oh, she is also addicted to the seat heaters. Told me she never wants another car without them.

I cannot believe how good the switchgear is in these new vehicles. The window swithces don't wiggle, the HVAC controls are all clean, easy on the eyes and easy to use. It reminds me of Audi/VW, good stuff. I don't know if the vehicles (all three in discussion) at the LA auto show were preproduction, but the seats were showing a blue-ish discoloration from people getting in and out. Although there are enough people getting in and out at the auto show to equal 8 years of ownership, I was shocked they weren't fixing it at night.

Trust me... look at the value of a Tahoe w/ 75K miles and then look at a LandRover. LR are built like a rock. Ive had Chevy and GMC my whole life... they are not worth $30-50,000. Just my $0.02!

A big thing is what you want, if you want/need a 4x4 only the tahoe and yukon come with that, the escalade and denali come in all-wheel drive. gas mileage, you can get a 6.0L with a 6-speed auto in esclade and i think denali. they also have a nice interior even though they all have much nicer interior then the previos models. Other then that they are the same besides exterior and some options here and there. I have driven them all and the esclade is by far the nicest riding of the 3, and stereo is really nice also.

I sold Cadillacs & GMC in 98-00 when the Escalade came out. They came in four colors. White, Black, Silver Sand, and Maroon. All had the same light beige interior. The same vintage Denali didn't offer the Silver Sand but did offer a dark green.

Keep in mind that the first generation Escalade and Denali were based on the old bodystyle 93-98 and used the old Vortec 5.7L(350ci) not the current 6.0L. The 5.7 was pretty weak only putting out 255hp not the 6.0s 325hp.and they got the same mileage. Also the breaks on that body style where terrible. They made huge brake improvements. My 2003 GMC truck has 74k+ miles on it and I have yet to do a brake job. Pre '99 I would be due for the 4th or 5th break job.Same here. 89k and OEM brakes. My favorite features of the truck is the Allison tranny and the 4-wheel disc brakes.

I hope mine goes that far without breaks. I plan to trade it in the fall when the new trucks come out. Would be nice not to have to do a break job. With my luck it will need breaks just before the new trucks are released and I will have to do a $400 break job a month before I trade it.:(

True that!

The last 3 GM trucks I have owned did not need brake jobs!! 02 Duramax had 91k on the clock when I sold it with easily 50% left on the pads. My 04 Duramax only had 25k when I sold it but I expected the same. And the wife's 03 Yukon just turned 90K and still on the OEM pads which look to be around 40%.

I have heard that while the pads do not wear the rotors take all the wear. A service shop I used to work at claims all 90% model GM trucks that come in for brake jobs usually wind up needing rotors all the way around. Yet he does claim the average life for the OEM pads/rotors is over 100K! I'll take that any day over a brake job every 15-20K!!...............

When the new ones come out? I sat next to a truckload of '07 Tahoes last night on my way home from the office. Did they hold up the release of the new Escalade or are they pushing those like they are pushing the new Tahoes?

The Tahoes are out and the Yukons and Escalades are supposed to be on the lots by the begining of February. Suburbans, Yukon XLs, Escalade EXTs and Avalanches are supposed to be out later in the spring.

The rest of the trucks Silverados and Sierras are not going to be out until the fall. I want a new Sierra to replace my '03 so unless they move up the dates again it is going to have to wait til fall.

I would do the same. The new pick-ups are amazing.

I have an 04' Z71 w/ light tan interior. The blueish color is a problem from jeans in and out. It comes right off w/ Meguiars leather cleaner, just a hassle. If you guys like the 07's models, check out Car and Driver online to see the new hybrid Tahoe model. It is sweet and the wheels are much better than others I have seen. I am sure it will top $50k when it hits the market.

I'd consider a nitrogen powered before I get excited about a hybrid of any sort. Just my thinking.
