Just curious who else is at work today? My company decided to give us last Friday of as a 2006 holiday. It sure was nice to have the entire week off between Christmas and new year, but missing the football day of the year hurts.

I worked today too. I got off at lunch Thurs before Christmas and went back today. I'm definitely not complaining.

On the other hand, I really don't see why today is a holiday? Why is it any different than July 5 or the day after Labor/Memorial Day. I can understand letting employees off on Jan 1 if happens to be a weekday, but why Jan 2? Would you get Jan 2 off if it were on a Thurs? Did you get Jan 3 off last year since it was on a Monday? I don't have a vested interest either way, just something I thought of passing the time this afternoon.

Did a quick service call this morning in a paper mill.
Now off until next Monday!
Just finished shoveling a 120' x50 ' hockey rink on the lake right in front of my house.
Got to skate and teach the neighbor's 4 years old how to...

I worked 9-2 then finished up at the home office. Rain and gloom all day so home just in time for some good football! :D

I had to do some work today but I took last Friday off. So last week was just a 3 day week. Monday off for Christmas Friday for New Years.

I fail to see the reasoning behind this also:confused:

my Dentist!

I knocked a crown off Thursday evening..... guess what? They don't work on Friday! (but I already knew that because I knocked the last one off on a Thursday)

so, I figure I'll suffer through the weekend eating through a straw and get it fixed on Monday..... guess what? Dentist decided to take the day off:rant: (staff was there, no dentist)

here's the kicker....
She said she didn't know if the dentist would decide to come in tomorrow!!!

So I continue to break my food up into smaller bite size pieces thinking maybe I can get it re-cemented tomorrow

Though technically on vacation, I put in a quite a few hours today. And unfortunately did this a few times over my two weeks off. Things just have to get done.

I was at work Monday. It was great, no traffic (1.25 hour commute each way), nobody at work - why can't it be like that all the time?

When a holiday falls on a weekend, our company usually doesn't select a day to be honored (like the Friday or Monday surrounding it), rather, they just give it to us as a floater. I really like that, it lets me take a Wednesday off when traffic is horrible & go ski!

This is true, no breaks, no holidays, no lunch(except making them for the kids), and it's 24/7. Much respect for all mothers. I told my wife, when we have kids, I'd much rather go to work!

Larry, Sorry to hear that you had to endure that sad event. I'm not a TT fan (OSU grad as in Oklahoma not Ohio), but was pulling for Tech and feeling the pain for you as I was able to catch the last 3 minutes of the game at work. That Alabama kick was the WORST kick in the history of college football. I sure the Bama fans think of a win as a win. Tech has really made great progress over the last few years.

I'm not sure if I should say I'm sorry for you, or glad for you? Which is it?

Being in business for yourself is tough work. I have a couple buddies who do it (not in the paint bus though - construction). It's a tough gig that's not all it's cracked up to be, no matter how you make out.
