Well, we are going to do a drive through Fl. in a few months. Let's just say for now April. We may or may not have some time to make some added stops. And I am not convinced which side we will be coming up.
I also may be looking for a stop along they way my wife will be able to get in a short lesson doing some tricks on the wakeboard.

Anyone know anything about Lake Placid.

Wasn't there a movie called "Lake Placid" that was about some 30 foot croc??? I wouldn't go skiing there!! Seriously, I have never skied Lake Placid, but have heard that it is quite a nice lake. I believe there are several campgrounds atround

I believe that was Lake Placid in New York.

We used to hold the Florida Fly-in (http://www.airjunky.com/florida/) on Lake Placid in Florida. Due to some major development in the area, the event has been moved.
It's a pretty nice lake. 3500 acres, sort of bean shaped (so 10 boats & it's chopped up). Probably takes you about 30 min. to ski all the way around it. One small, shallow river where I was told the gators live. We never saw them in the main lake at all. It's part of a chain of lakes in the area so there are several others in the area.

April in Florida is beautiful.

What he said. April is the best time of the year in FL. Normally, it'll be in the 80's with low humidity and the daily thunderstorms aren't happening yet. October is about the same, but with the remote threat of a hurricane.

That's why we go in April. We go once in awhile in Jan. but this is going to be our most sled riding season yet. So I don't want to miss any chances and we are waiting until our snow is gone.:D

Huh, I didn't know there was a Lake Placid in Florida...I had to do a Mapquest. Didn't know people lived in that part of the state. lol

Anyways, just so you know we wakeboard mostly, but also ski and barefoot occasionaly (my roots)...so, I'm willing to host any fellow TMC'ers regardless of what they want to do behind the boat. Also, as a point of reference, I'm near Sanford...about 20 minutes from 95 (Daytona).

McCormick's is in Seffner, FLA which is just outside of Tampa. Although, my personal experience is they are more geared toward skiing. But, if you just wanted a pull they have a great facility, just not any big wakeboard instructors.

Whoa! When I went to ski school in Orlando, it was something like $500/week, $100/day (4 or 5 sets), or $25/set if you just dropped by, with instruction. A set was basically until you got tired -- for slalom it was about 5 or 6 passes through the slalom course.
But that was 10 years ago...

I'd still shop around. $400 for 2 sets sounds really high to me.

$400 a day for unlimited rides all day for unlimited people maybe?

shepherd
02-01-2006, 11:32 PM
The only thing I can think is that wakeboarders can ride a lot longer than slalomers before they get wore out and climb back in the boat. The place I went to didn't have wakeboarding. But still, that's expensive. I'm sure there are plenty of TTers down in that area who would be happy to take you out on the lake all day for the price of a 12-pack. I would if I was still down there...

BriEOD
02-02-2006, 05:12 PM
I think I got like $350-399 a few summers ago here in Tampa. You got a set in the morning and a set after lunch. It was basically about 20 minutes or 6 passes. That was plenty! By the end of that week my hands were raw and muscles in my body I didn't even know I had hurt (I'm in good shape too).

Davo
02-08-2006, 11:21 AM
Wow, $400 is expensive for a couple pulls, sessions or whatever they want to call it. You're probably better off going with OWC (http://www.orlandowatersports.com/lessons-camps.php) or O-Town Watersports (http://www.otownwatersports.com/) for a lesson.

Also, a friend of mine who lives on our lake has done a lot of professional coaching. I can't make any promises with all of our busy schedules, but it is possible I could hook something up with him free of charge. I work M-F 8-5, but am flexible and daylight savings time begins April 2nd!

P.S. - Goin' to the "Bud Shootout" this Saturday night. :headbang:

There is a dealership in Tampa that is open on Sat. Been know to have a few folds from TEAMTALK stop by. Lets see....this weekend will have
SKIDOG, BriEOD, MCSALTWATER, TScott, VSMITHMD, well that's enough. I even heard there was a couple of boats in the water.

Stop by...Don't tell Mc Cormick's you own a MC. They will probably charge you double, give you a bad pull HA HA HA.

Thanks guys, but the trip is long over. I was hoping to stop in and say Hi Jim, but to make a long story short, it just did not happen. Flew down on Saturday. Got there mid day, went to McCormicks to get a set in, and by then I figured you were probably closed. Spent Sunday with the guy I was traveling with at his parents since it was Mother's Day weekend. Monday I skied at McCormicks again and Tuesday I flew home. Saturday night would have been a possibility to meet in a bar some place, but I did not get any responses before I left, and other then your shop I was not certain who else was close by. If we make the trip ever again, I promise to give you more notice and try to connect.
