Being able to drop back to 34 was one of the benefits of turning 35...

Well Jraben8; I just moved up to 34MPH in the last two months last summer at 46. But, I'm sure we ski at different levels still!

33-34 for me, in the course. Yeah, I feel like a girly-man because I can't even get through 15 off. I should try 36 sometime for the heck of it. It'll probably feel like 50! :eek3: It's amazing to me how different 33 and 34 feels in the course. A pass at 32 seems *really* slow. Free skiing, I feel like 34 is almost too slow sometimes.
Ahh, a beautiful 11 degrees right now. What I wouldn't give to be skiing at any speed!

I feel like I'm sinking below 34 ... between 35-36 (no gps) and I'm just free skiing, so ... I suppose if I was on a course I would get a fatter ski and go slower until I could learn to ski around those floaty things. Something about being 220# that makes you need speed to stay on plane:)

Wait a minute, I didn't say I wasn't willing to slow the boat down for girls.

Too late. 8p I'll let them sit in the bow and we'll see how the boat handles the chop ... again (driver's delight).

I'm usually at 32. But - I do get into 34 every now & then. Barefoot - Wide Open or 44, which ever is slower.

If im footin it has to be about 45, but with 3 speedos that all say something diferent I dont know until I fall.
Wake boarding 18-22
slalom 38.
tubing wide open!!

34-35 MPH for free skiing, so its a bit fast for an intermediate skier, but I also feel like I am sluggish under 34 MPH. I skied a course one day in a ski school, and that was at 32 MPH.(and it kicked my arse  )

Ya know, I did ski with a guy this summer once that I towed at 40 MPH. he was pushing it too, and he fell.....hard!!! those falls looked rough to me.

tubing wide open?!?! your in for a broken neck. one good fall at that speen on a power turn will definatley make it hard to slalom at 38mph.

It might just be that I dont know what I am doing back there, but i have slack problems if i am not going fast enough. i have been known to pop a shoulder on hard cuts at these speeds but it is usually just a burner.

rodltg2
12-21-2005, 01:29 PM
you may want to get some advice on the slack, 38 is too fast. maybe fun once in awhile but it seems like it could be dangerous.

roddydog

Agreed. You also have to turn harder and quicker. Sounds like you are turning and spending just a little too much time (a second or two) parallel with the boat, that will give you the slack.
IMHO, crank it until you're just across the wake ( or the second half of the wake) then ease up a bit 'til you're ready to turn again, then lean into it and crank it again.
Good luck!!

I guess I'm the only old fart that skis at 27 :D I just can't ski very well anymore. I have a couple of bad wheels and I'm afraid to push it too hard. It's not the skiing that hurts... it's the falls

Because his spedo is off! Or he has some sort of death wish / desire for physical injury:)

My boat weighs 1,150 lb with the motor (120 outboard). Let's just say it doesn't hold speed quite the same as my buddy's Malibu LXi w/375hp and PP. On my boat if your goal is around 34 mph, you better start at about 37 mph and prepared to add some more throttle once the skier is ripping. Is it faster than 36? Well yes, then no, then yes....are we talking average speed? :)

Leroy
12-23-2005, 07:38 PM
I'm in the old fart group also and I went for years at 26-27 and then skiing with group in Indy that pushes it, I kept moving up until this year 34 felt very comfortable. It was funny, I wanted to try 36 MPH and never had the nerve, 1 or 2 mph really makes a big difference.

Whatever you have fun at is the right speed!

Not so much in the old fart group, but in the young and dumb days got hurt too many times and had to quit skiing for a couple years and now getting back in to it. 33-34 is plenty and still have visions of noses breaking, shoulders poping, backs cracking, knees twisting, etc...

If you can barefoot at high thirties you should be able to slalom at thrity with no problem. Maybe thats just me saving gas but...
