When I used to post a lot on the Corvette Forum, they would refer to this as a Mag Red Moment  Seemed I had a string of unusual things happen to me while in the kitchen. Well...........looks like they haven't ended. This is the result of trying to heat up a glass pie pan, filled with oil, on an electric range :eek3: Damned good thing I only got a cut on my arm as I was standing right next to the stove when it EXPLODED!!!!!!!http://www.tmcowners.com/photopost/data/500/IMG_0884.JPG

:purplaugh To make matters worse.......I was in my socks when the bomb went off! As soon as it detonated I started flying out of the kitchen, apparently running over shards of glass, trying to get the fire extinguisher. ( did I mention the fire???? :D ) Lucky I didn't cut my foot either. :wavey:

Eating the Chicken that made it into the oven right now. Got most of the glass swept up. I figured some Dawn would be best for the olive oil that's all over the range.

What, that is not how you winterize your boat? I have been using scolding hot corn oil for years and have never had a cracked block! Of course I use an oven safe pie pan when I heat the old corn oil!
Lesson learned!

bleach and ammonia will not help!!

Oh, AND STAY OUT OF THE KITCHEN!!

I realize a boy has got to eat. Have you given any thought to a hot plate out in the yard??

Mag_Red
12-08-2005, 11:33 PM
uh....why was it that you were heating oil in a glass baking pan on the range?well it was like this...........had an extra couple of pieces of chicken to place in the oven. Didn't want to wait for the oil to preheat in the oven so...great idea! Heat it up quicker on the cook top :D

OK, I have a buddy like you Mag. He does very similar types of things, with similar outcomes. This buddy of mine is a volunteer fireman, and he has lit himself onfire 3 times that I know of :uglyhamme He also operates chainsaws while under the influence on occasion. no 911 calls yet.

OK Mag, I will offer a tip here: GAS GRILL!! I cook nearly everything on a gas grill. I dislike ovens. Grills are easier to clean IMO. and if there ever is an accident like that, its outside! If I cant nuke it in the micro, then its a Weber grill experience. :headbang:

WEll, bummer to hear you got cut, but I am glad the injuries were minimal, it could have been alot worse bud!!!

Everytime I read something on here about something like that, I immediately think if a kid (or young adult) that doesn't know what happens, reads that and does not "get it" he/she may wonder "does this work?" Sorry for the TJ. Maybe I am one getting to precautious....
