Going to Las Vegas this weekend and am trying to plan some good eating. Being from New Orleans we eat our way through cities.

I have been to Vegas many times and have tried a lot. As a rule we don't do chain resturaunts. Buffets are also mostly out although we do hit the Village Seafood Buffet at the Rio every time we go. Plan on getting to the Lotus of Siam this time down. Any other suggestions? We will probably go all out one night and the rest of the time try and hit the less formal places with good food.

If you're looking for a taste of home, Commander's Palace (http://www.commanderspalace.com/las_vegas/index.php) at the Aladdin, but maybe you don't want Las Vegas Cajun. ;)

There are lots of great restaurants here. Are you stuck on the Strip or do you have a car?

We never do New Orleans when we are out but from all reports the Commanders in the Aladdin is nearly as good as the original.. When in Rome.

Not stuck on the strip entirely. We have a good friend in town although he is not a real food person and can always cab it to a location that is not all that far away.

Staying at the NY NY but I have a tendancy to spend a lot of time Downtown. I just like the Old Vegas feel and the cheap tables Downtown.

If I do steak I think I am going to go back to Del Friscos. One of the best steaks I have ever eaten.

Definetly go to the Rum Jungle, i think it is in the Mirage! It is about $25 per person and they bring every kind meat and cut it right at the table. I believe it is all you can eat, and let me tell you it is alot of food. :D

a brazilain rodizio is a resturant that they bring diffrent cuts of beef, pork, lamb etc. by the table and they cut it and serve it to you at the table. then they have a buffet for all the side dishe like salads, rice and so on. its all you can eat.

If you like "old Vegas" you might like Bootlegger (http://www.ratelasvegas.com/restaurants/ratings/l100.html). It's a couple miles south of the Strip and the family has had restaurants here for years. They don't seem to have a web site, this was the best I could find. Great food!

Also south of the Strip, Panevino (http://www.panevinolasvegas.com/) has excellent food and a neat view of the Strip, but definitely more expensive.

Unfortunately, probably too New Orleans as well, but Delmonico (http://www.venetian.com/dining/dining.cfm?ID=1) is our favorite splurge restaurant. Expensive, but fantastic food.

Andre's (http://las-vegas-hotels.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g45963-d422609-r2857461-Andre_s-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html) has two locations, the one downtown is supposed to be really cool, but I've only eaten at the one in the Monte Carlo. Very good food.

If you're looking for something different, Marrakech (http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2829958-marrakech_las_vegas-i) is fun and the food is good (again no web site). IIRC, dinner is ~$30 per person, not including drinks.

Other than Bootlegger, these are special-occasion-type restaurants that we liked. I'm assuming you're not looking for good bar food, but I know some of those too, if you're interested. :D

Thanks for the ideas. I have eaten at Delmonicos in Vegas and in New Orleans and have to say the the Vegas version is very close to the original. Might give one of the others a try.

Would be interested in some of your bar food ideas as well. My wife is going for a conference so during the day I am going to be on my own. So far my plan is to play cards, drink Momosas and Bloody Marys in the Morning, Beer in the afternoon and Coctails in the evening. I guy has to eat sometime.

well if your going to be by yourself for some period i would suggest olympic gardens. they have great scenery.

So... you're saying that Bloody Mary's aren't food??? ;)

Tommy Rocker's (http://www.tommyrocker.com/trhome.htm) is close to the Strip and has plenty of the greasy goodness needed to get through a busy day of drinking.

Any of the Big Dog's (http://www.bigdogsbrews.com/index.html) bars serve great food if you feel like venturing a little further away from the Strip.

Nikki Lee's has my favorite hamburger, but no website. That's at 2640 Sunset Road, Las Vegas, NV, 89120, east of the airport.

And you can hardly go anywhere here without tripping over a PT's (http://www.ptspubs.com/). Again, just good bar food.

Nothing fancy at these places, but good food fairly cheap. And drinks, of course. :D

*Edit: Whoops! Nikki Lee's would be east of the airport. Fixed it.

Rum Jungle is at Mandalay Bay. If you like downtown (old!) Vegas, try Andre's or Chicago Joes.

Hugo's Celler in the Four Queens (downtown) is amazing! Regularly voted "best of Vegas" by the locals. Definitely Old Vegas feel. You can just picture mob bosses sitting around planning their next scam!

If you like fine dinning that involves great steaks and wines, I would suggest Del Monico's at the Venetian. (It is an Emeril Legasse Restaurant)

Brian, this weekend is national rodeo finals, are you going for that? None of my biz of course, but I was supposed to be there with some friends this weekend. Pat Green is playing there Friday (one of my favorites)
Not going to make it though.

The big dinner that we did was Hugos in the Four Queens. Overall it was a really nice evening and was just what I was looking for. We also ate at an asian place (forget the name now) at the Palms which was good as well. Best deal though was the 777 off menu special at the cafe inside the Hard Rock hotel. The steak was great even if it would have been twice the price.

As usual had a great time but am glad to be home.

Can't lose with Hugo's. Definitely "old vegas". Love the Hot rocks appetizer.
