View Full Version : Propeller for 190

Got an '89 ProStar 190 that is used for both skiing & wakeboarding. Planning to change over to a 4-blade prop. Any recommendations for sizing ? Current prop is 13x13 Legend 3-blade. Have 700 lbs ballast in rear and 300 lbs in front for wb. Power comes from a 351 ci Ford (Indmar) engine.

consider an acme 13 X11.5 this will give you better hole shot. Props by acme are incredible. They generally don't recommend a four blade for direct drive with 1:1 transmission

I'd vote for an acme as well (and no, I don't work for them). I went with the 13x12 on a 351 HO (93 PS 205). Slightly less hole shot than the prop George recommends, but still an improvement over the OJ 13x13 that was stock on your boat. No loss of top end, even with the decrease in pitch. Smoother ride. Some of the best money I've spent on the boat.

I suggest you call acme (number is on www.acmemarine.com) and speak to Bill Weeks. If you're wakeboarding, he may suggest something different that he did in my case as I am doing slalom skiing almost exclusively.

Ok Simo, What they said.

Now that the prop thing is solved, welcome aboard and maybe you can post some photographs of your boat:toast:

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome, and for the advice. I've contacted Acme and waiting for their reply.

While on the subject, we did quite much damage to the boat (besideds the prop), driving in too shallow water. Prop shaft and rudder were damaged. I will get most of the parts from MasterCraft UK, but is there anything special I need to check/replace, besides the prop shaft, prop shaft support and rudder ? I was planning to take the trans to local shop just to be sure.

Hi and welcome, Simo! I have an 88' and put an Acme 13 x 12 3-blade on, and absolutly love it. I belive it was model number 541, reccomended directly from Acme from a phone call. Let us know which model number they reccomend and what you think!

Simo, make sure you get the engine realigned. I had a similar incident with a family member's boat. If you are replacing the strut, then that may be the only other thing to worry about.
