coming home from thanksgiving dinner tonite we drove by a Best Buy. It was 9:30 at nite and there were 20 people in line camping out for their 5Am opening.

We were speculating that they were probably going to be putting the stuff they buy on ebay for double what they pay for it.

What a sad world we live in........

I went all over Texarkana asking, and in a medium sized U.S. city, Microsoft allotted all of about 35 x-boxes. I personally have put off my purchase indefinately. Too bad my old x-box died a couple months ago.

THis is the basis of our capitalist country! I just wish it were my company coming out with a few hot items like this!

On top of that, there seem to be some problems with crashing and/or overheating affecting some of these early X-box 360 adopters.

Look at this google search... (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=xbox+360+problems)

Bucky,
My XBox also died 3 weeks ago. The DVD Rom finally died after 3-4 months of troubles (I did clean it regularly).
Instead of trashing the console, I reserched on Google first and then on E-Bay and bought a brand new identical DVD Rom drive for $15 + $8 shipping. Got it 2 days later, spend 15 minutes installing it, and the machine now works better than new.
It was well worth the 1 1/2 hour of work and the $23. I am not an electronic expert neither, I rarely open up these things.

also, you can send me your old dishnetwork receivers;)

about 6 months ago, found someone getting rid of one in the BOX, used once. I paid $90.00 for it with 8 games. I think it was a deal I could not pass up. Now when the kids come over they have something to play on other than my snowmobiles and R/C equipment!!!

Not that I see anything wrong with my occasional participation of Colin Mcrae Rally 2005. (Is it wrong I have to practice when they aren't here:o )

I wish I would have heard about that, I would have went to the lines the other day with my video camera waiting for that. I would have laughed my A55 off.

For some (rich) people, money is no object if it's something you want. Like someone willing to pay over $100,000 for a ski boat! ;)

It quit playing movies or games. Probably the dvd-rom. I guess I should have asked before trashing. Does anyone need a remote control and plug-in to play movies on their 1st gen x-box? It's all thats left and won't be any good with the new system.

Heard about someone who came out of the store with the new 360, and someone in line gave them $1000 for it.

Those ebay runups on prices don't always bring the final winning bid price ;)

Ebay has become a joke in this respect
ask rodl and a few others with ebay experience
remember the guy and the wedding dress?

I project that in two years, a host of major retailers will open at 12:00am for Thanksgiving Day-After sales. There was a Disney store (lame) that opened here at 4:00am. Big-Lots opened early on T-Day, rather than the day after. More are sure to follow.

I went to Circuit City at 4:30 and got some great stuff. Thing is, I bet that more people are willing to stay up until midnight, likely leave right after an early afternoon turkey dinner, and get that line rolling. Or worse skip the dinner to save on a TV. I'll give up a couple hours of sleep, but I'm not giving up time with family. I bet it will change Thanksgiving a lot more than the Pre-cooked, pick-em-up, take-out dinners.

Saw someone selling an "360 Xbox box" on ebay last week. That's right, the box. Total scam, but someone undoubtedly fell for it. Read those auction pages carefully!
