I read on another site where Andy Mapple has resigned from WWSP? He was the leading force behind the pro slalom tournaments in 2005, so without him heading this up, you gotta wonder what is in store for 2006?
Anyone got any ideas as to how we can save the sport of bouy chasing???

slalom skiing is a pretty antisocial sport. Not that the people are antisocial, but we pretty much want the lake to ourselves. Not very inviting.

Good question, I wish I had a good idea. Despite all the lakes nearby it's difficult to have a good course setup between the DNR regulations and homeowners.

What's up with Andy? He leaves CC, O'Brien, and now WWSP? I thought he would stick with that one for a while.

what i think needs to happen is developers that build golf course communites should develop ski communities. or both, have ski lakes and golf courses. i know there are some ski lake community builders now but not large scale. if i had the dough i would do it.

I had a brief opportunity to talk to Andy over the summer while he was in town to do a CC sponsored clinic. He seemed very optimistic about the future of the sport.
It is no great mystery that in order to get good at slalom, you need a set course and smooth water which most often can only be found at a private site. On the other side of the coin is the popularity of wakeboarding, which does not require anything special, other than skill.... all you need is water a big wake and a lot of space. So, until we get more private lakes that open their doors to clinics and letting people get a taste of what a course is all about (addiction), the sport won't grow.

I don't believe salom skiers or wakeboarders are antisocial, but we have not developed the right venues for the sport to grow.

There are public tennis courts, basketball courts, public camp grounds, etc why not......I'll be happy when I see:
1. Regulated water skiing on public lakes, ie dedicated water ski area, set patterns for everyone to run, course, free ski area, beginner area, rail area.

2. Private lakes where anyone can go for a fee. IE like a snow ski mountain, private lake pay $xx for the day and ski all day.

3. Places where you can pay to be pulled!

Hey I think TV is one thing that can quickly grow the sport but we need somebody who can make 3 event exciting on TV.. I'm not that guy but that is what it's going to take!
eg: when I see 3 event on tv, I don't see it laid out in a way that newbies can grasp what it took the pro's to arrive at this line length, nor how points are racked up on trick, etc

Aagree Ric, certainly a couple of other obscure sports, Tour de France, and Ironman Triathlon have benefited from tv coverage.

This morning ch612 Fuel on DirecTV had another Pull show on wakeboarders and wakeskaters. This one was much better than earlier one I saw.

IMO, this is the best show on TV. It is a weekly show, and being in it's first season, every show is fresh. It is also produce by possibly the best wakeboard/wakeskate magazine out there: Alliance. Not just done by money hungry corporate TV execs. Fuel has been getting bombarded with praise regarding this show.

high school and college ski teams could promote the sport as well.
