I am looking for Christmas gift ideas for my husband, and since this forum is where he spends most of his spare time in the winter, I'm guessing you guys all have very similar wants. I'm stumped and maybe he will see this post and inadvertently tell me what he wants... ;) So please, your input would be greatly appreciated, whether its a boat related idea or otherwise, doesn't matter! Thanks in advance!

You mean something other than a new Mastercraft?
Maybe a good buffer and compound so he can give that beauty a good rub down.

I'm certain he would like 8 months of summer!!! He should be along any moment and let you know the perfect gift. We all spend way too much time here during the winter months.

If it was me, (and I don't think it is), I'd love a week's vacation down somewhere warm at a waterski school. Ideally somewhere you could go off for an hour or so to shop/ wine tour/ sitesee while I did my sets.

At first I was going to say it can't be my wife because it's the wrong boat. But if she did this, she'd be smart enough to use a different boat to throw me off.

She just didn't realize that Scott would be smart enough to figure out the red herring so fast.

Table Rocker, you posted this right when I was feeling unbelievably dense for not playing it like you say. But in my defence, I was really pretty sure it wasn't my wife at first. Then she made us think it was, which obviously got me feeling like such an oaf for not being more subtle.

So... my wife adamantly denies that it's her.

Thus... craftermast, I'm going to need you to prove that you're not my wife (ha ha).

Anyways, to get your thread back on track, I've been looking at getting the polisher that the guys on the forum really like. Help me out guys... I think it's the Porter Cable 7424?

Here's the quote.

rtw_travel
12-13-2013, 09:09 AM

There are a few options here.

First- complain to the web store. They have selected one of the most expensive shipping options, and the argument they'll use is that this method includes customs brokerage fees, so it saves you money... But you don't need them to do that.
http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?p=925659#post925659

Second, there are lots of re-shippers in the US. Http://www.shipito.com is one I've used. For$8.50 plus the cost of re-shipping, they'll give you a US mailing address, receive the package, and then re-ship it to you in canada via your selected method of shipping. USPS is cheapest. As a guess, I'd bet it would be $35-ish to do this- still expensive but a little better. This is useful if the US web store only offers expensive Canadian shipping options and free US shipping, or if they won't ship to canada at all.

Option 1 is better/cheaper, but it's often difficult to get a web store to change their policy.

I hear ya! Its back to that ole courier versus post issue. More Canadians would shop if they would use USPS.

That was seriously the quite the site gave me.

Here's the quote.

I used to send stuff to Canada once in a while and it never cost me that much. Just extra forms to sign, including my first born. :) But that was like 10 years ago.

If timing was better (I already ordered mine), and I could prove the cost would be less for you, I would buy it and ship it up to you. Of course that would be setting a precedence that I would not be able to keep up with.... Which then points back to rtw_travel's idea for a re-shipper.

That shipping to canada is such a joke. I wish US companies would clue in to how many more items they would sell to canada if they stopped being so lazy and just used USPS instead of stupid UPS and their ridiculous shipping and duty charges.

Those boat heaters are interesting, especially for us Canadians.

Duty is both. Companies like ups use their own brokerage, so they up charge, big time. Shipping rates are all over the place, but with a little research you'll come up with reasonable rates, guaranteed.

Patrick---curious. Is the heater so you don’t have to winterize?

It is so I can use the boat at anytime during the Seattle winter. They work great. I still drain the water out after every winter usage. I just do not completely winterize it over and over again. I have ski buddies that just use the heater and do not drain the water all winter. I just do not put that much trust in my electrical source thru the winter. They are little costly units, but nothing compared to a cracked engine block.
