I like it. We've owned '06, '07, and '10 GT's and switched over to a 370z just to try something new. The new design has just enough evolutionary change to make me want some V-8 rumble back in my life.

The '67 Mustang fastback should be the style that all Mustangs try to emulate! That new design looks ... like is should have 4 doors.

Agreed--I was afraid that they'd completely screw up what I consider a great looking car, albeit getting a little "long in the tooth"...

Hope Santa's got room for two on the sleigh!

You're not kidding!

Strangely, I still look at the Fusion and think, "Aston Martin grille", but look at the Mustang and think, "vintage Mustang". Then again, have a look at the '70's A-M V8 Vantages, and it seems as if that DNA was shared a long time ago.

I disagree. I love the new old school camaros. Would I personally own one, prolly not. '69 camaro SS was a bad@$$ car. Now make a similar modern version and sales instantly boomed. It is because they are cool.

I'm willing to bet that there are very few people willing or able to update an older camaro to make it new school. Look at it like this. You buy an older camaro worth restoring for $7k. Then everything has to be torn down. Throw in a new suspension and upgrade to the LS6 with a Kenny Bell Supercharger, mini tub the rear, throw in all new electronic gauges, add the check engine light, and paint it to be what you want.........now you have $80-100k in a car.

Or restore it to factory and be old school.

You know I'm a car guy and do custom stuff to some cars but the '60 Austin Healey in the garage is not getting molested. So it will always feel like I'm riding on a wagon with steel wheels/no tires.

The new technology that Chevy put in the camaro is awesome. A factory camaro SS 6 speed only goes 155 mph and that's a hard mile or 2 run. They are fun for a while. Like a jet ski. Fun to ride for a few hours and then return to its owner. My ex has a '12 camaro SS and while it was fun to play in, I would not own one. My WS6 went 180 mph and I would only want faster than that. Knowing that is my personality, it's cheaper to find another hobby that is fun than take a new car and make it mine.

Remember I've built a '69 Camaro SS with all new LS6 supercharged etc that ran 195 mph and have also built a 2010 SS turbo charged that ran 202 mph and a 2011 SS supercharged that ran 220 mph. Helped build all 3 cars for a speed shop. I know what goes into fast an think ford and Chevy both should keep building retro cars. It's impossible to make cool and fast out of an old car for what the new ones go for.

Don't get me into ford vs Chevy. I've owned both and like them both but each has a different purpose or application.

I do not like it al ALL. First thing I said when I saw it preview was; Two Words: "Ford Fusion" .
I was a little excited as I saw a version a few weeks ago with various aftermarket kits, a double hood scoop and other body mods. I was thinking; "not really an American car guy, but this thing looks like it could be bad a$$". Now seeing the "production" model, I could not be less interested.

Yes, it is but Chevy said $50K starting. There is one in my dealers showroom with a sticker of 77K, but they want a premium and have it priced at 90K. That is a far cry from 50-60K.

Wonder how much GM will make selling them. It's bada$$ yes but not practical. Camaro has v6, rs, SS, etc

Vettes are higher than giraffe pu$$ and few can afford them. As a business standpoint the camaros will profit more than any vette.

Heck I'll go LOOK at one, but I can't afford one. Most people will look and like but not buy one.

If marketing was that easy then dealers would throw a Ferrari on the show room to have customers LOOK at before they buy their 1/2 ton truck or v6 mustang or SS Camaro.

For a company who just got bailed out, spending the money marketing for a vette and selling maybe 100 per year is not good business vs selling a thousand camaros. The vette doesn't sell the camaro either. The camaro sells the camaro and the vette sells the vette.

The difference between a dealer with the owner's 458 Italia sitting in the showroom and every Chevy dealer with a shiny new C7 is that every enthusiast in the country knows about the C7's arrival courtesy of a million reviews and the advertising GM has done.

I'd agree that an actual C7 shopper is not going to get a Camaro/etc. instead. However, Joe Blow swinging by the Chevy dealer with his wife and kids just to check out the cool new Vette is more likely to pick up a Malibu for his wife than the guy who never sets foot on the lot. How many sales does that add up to? Who knows?

Think you guys are missing the point. They might sell 1000 vettes but how many 10,000's of camaros or other Chevys.

Then consider profit margin per each vette unit and how much cost to market, go through design, make, and create the vettes. Profit margin is way lower than any other Chevy vehicle, if there is any profit.

Bail outs don't exist if profit is in the + side. Just sayin

GM sold 3.932 Corvettes in October of this year. Given some decline from the C7's initial offering, projections have them selling 30,000 over the next year!

That is way more than I thought they would produce.

On the other hand, how many need to be sold to even profit $1. Paying employees to design it, make it, produce it, then parts, I'm sure you need more than a hand full to start generating a profit.

I also agree what Chevy won't be Chevy without the vette.

Regardless of how many are built, Chevy knows they must build a vette because the first thing you think about when you hear Chevy is vette. I am curious if the line even makes a profit. The company may take a loss just to continue tradition. I have no clue about their finances but someone must think about bail out and producing a product to pay off a loan and the most economical way of doing it. Personally I don't see them profiting much off of the vette line.

Example. We have a billion dollar loan. We sell 30,000 vettes. Profit say is 5k per unit. That is 150m in sales margin. Now pay employees (very expensive say 40k each assembly line employee), build design team, research and development (millions), and the amount of prototypes that were made and not used, and I'm thinking the profit is not so good for the amount of time and efforts it takes to make everything happen. Then we have a few big wigs that have to take home their 500k salary too.

Just think about it.

This weather puts me in a foul mood. The streets were wet earlier but not slickery. I bet they will be very slickery in the morning. The freezing rain really picked up 45 min ago.

No doubt a lot of cars need to be sold to surpass development costs. GM has stated they make $10-$15k per C7 sold not including development costs. I have no idea what the actual unique development costs (as opposed to those shared with other models) are, but let's say for the sake of argument it was 800 million dollars...It would take 80,000 cars sold (achievable in 3-4 years even given a drastic decline from the first year projections) to clear those costs at the low end of the stated profit margin.

While I suspect you're correct that the Camaro is a higher profit vehicle for GM, I'd bet it's well within reason to expect the C7 to eventually turn at least a modest profit.

If you're going to borrow a design, you might as well borrow a good one!

If you really want to dig deep, that forward kick in the leading lower edge of the C-pillar is referred to as the "hofmeister kink" and is borrowed from BMW, who first started doing it in the '60's.

This is not to be confused with "Hoffmeister Kink" which has something to do with David Hasselhoff's uhhh, "night riding":D

rjracin240, My initials are R.J. and I have owned 240Z's for 30 years. I have a 73 in showroom condition and a 72 "builder" I hope to race one day. These cars are fun. Notice how small it is in comparison to the Stang. I am 6'2" and feel like a giant when I get out of the Z. It drives like a go cart and I love it. Another 73 240z was my first car when I was 16, so in addition to feeling like a giant, I feel 16 again when I drive her.

It's actually Black Cherry. One of those colors that looks black or cherry depending on the light. The better the paint is detailed and the higher the quality of wax, the blacker it looks. It's a great color, but like black, it demands a fair amount of time with the polisher. I use a Flex polisher and Adam's system...great detailing system.

The 370 is a great car. This one is actually my 7th Z-car, my brand affiliation starting with a '69 240Z, a 260Z, a couple of 280's, and a couple of 280ZX's, the most recent of which was a 280ZX Turbo that I sold in 1983 when our first house purchase and our first child happened at about the same time. I loved that Turbo, but even though this 370Z doesn't quite have the raw speed, its handling is astonishing to me and for that reason plus its comparative refinement, it is WAY more fun to drive than I ever remember any previous Z to be, with the possible exception of my 240Z.

I don't think they were made to be direct competition. Otherwise, GM would've made an effort to get close to the 662hp the Shelby has, and not come in at 550hp on the Camaro. JMO

Just for fun, I looked up the sales # differences for the Camaro, Vette, and Stang, over their lifetime.

Surprisingly, the Camaro only outsells the Vette about 2.8/1. I thought it would be much more than that. And the Mustang has out sold the Camaro 2/1. Even if you include the firebird, it is still at least 1.5/1, and that is excluding the 2 generations that the mercury capri was a pony car. With everything combined, the ford pony cars have outsold the GM pony cars 2 to 1. Which I find pretty interesting.

The corvette actually sells about 30-35k units per year, and has been known to be one of GMs better moneymakers (for its respective sales amount). They have virtually no competition, in that class. 35k units a year, is certainly nothing to sneeze at. The Corvette has actually sold more units, per average year, than the Chevy Suburban.

Fun facts that I never would have guessed were true :D

The sales numbers aren't surprising. The Mustang was priced drastically lower than the Camaro/Firebird all the 90's and 2000's, and the wimpy 4 banger that was offered by Ford really drove their . That really can't be considered a true Pony car, IMO.

does it hurt your feelings that the shelby gt500 walks all over your automatic ZL1?

I personally haven't had the opportunity to run a Shelby GT500 - But according to Hot-Rod Magazine the ZL-1 beat the Shelby in the 1/8 mile --- :D

After repeated passes in the Mustang that resulted in missed 12 shifts, a few of our fellow racers even offered to take the wheel. Unfortunately, the shift problem wasn't something new from the GT500. Despite the low mileage of our test car, the clutch engagement was very high in the pedal's travel, which didn't leave much room for error. The previous drivers of this media-fleet machine hadn't been too kind to the clutch. We're looking at you, Motor Trend. Our best time in the GT500 was an 8.57 at 93 mph in the eighth-mile. Clearly, there is more left in the car.

The Camaro ZL1 had the most options when it came to launch controls. With the traction control set in Mode 2, we launched with our foot to the floor and the ECM holding the engine to 4,250 rpm. If we were too quick off the clutch, the car wheelhopped, but we did get in a run with just a little bit of wheelspin that resulted in 8.47 seconds at 88 mph in the eighth-mile.

Im also in college (did you go? ) which fiscally it doesn't make sense for me to buy a boat. I could easily buy a 20k dollar boat like yours, since I work two jobs on top of school. But since I just bought a bmw, I have nothing to tow it with.
Anyways. Nice new mustang.

The sales numbers aren't surprising. The Mustang was priced drastically lower than the Camaro/Firebird all the 90's and 2000's, and the wimpy 4 banger that was offered by Ford really drove their . That really can't be considered a true Pony car, IMO.

I've had 3 Fords.

The first one blew a head gasket at 45k miles (95 v6 mustang)
The second one went through 3 a/c compressors in 2 years among other things. Granted I had done a lot of work to the motor, but I still wrenched on that car a lot. Regardless, it was my favorite I've owned. (94 mustang cobra)
The third is the ecoboost f150 I just bought. Love the truck, glad it has a warranty.

Can't forget that GM had the wimpy 2.8l versions, that can't really be considered either :D

Ford did have a very good price point for the mustang. That was what made that car a performance bargain back in the day. That is long gone now

I used to love Camaro's and Mustang's. Now I can't stand any performance car out of Detroit. Owned one M3, and I have forever forgotten American sports cars.

Your right, they had a wimpy 3.8l in the 90s, but the mustang was also up to a wimpy 3.8l through those years 8p.

Wasn't many Camaros built in the 2000s, with the Camaro badge vacation....

I going to go get in my F-250 and think about how mean all of you are being to us ford owners now!!!

Perhaps after what all you guys are saying I should take the Audi or GM product out for my cool off drive!!;)

Serious question though- about to get rid of my wifes Cadillac and she is looking at a lexus, any of you guys ever owned a lexus? Thoughts?

I had an IS300 that I just replaced with a truck. Great vehicle... the only thing I ever replaced on it in 160k miles was 3 o2 sensors. I'd buy another lexus in a second.

Not to be contradictory, but there were many, many years that Ford only offered a 4cyl and the 5.0, while GM had a 6cyl and the 8. everyone and their dog could get into a 4cyl Mustang... to the best of my knowledge, GM has never slunk to offering a 4yl in their Pony car.

The v6 of the late 80s and early 90's was nothing to write home about. That turd might as well have been a 4cyl just to increase the mpg's. At least Ford offered a turbo option on the 4cyl :D Hooray SVO!

I own 2 toyotas:

04 Tacoma with 200K. Only think that's been replaced is the AC compressor and the timing belt. Impossible to kill it.

03 Lexus SC430: Cream Puff with 44K. Not sure about maintenance costs, I've only driving it 6,000 miles in 2 years. But it's SOLID - a tank.

Note: I will replace both of these vehicles with toyotas in the future.

Father-in-law has some land in the northern portion of Michigan's lower peninsula. Lots of trails, deer, elk, turkey grouse and pheasant all over it. Mostly they get after the deer and elk. Good eating.

Agreed Scott, I just watched that whole Video..
If anything , they gave it to the Camaro unless you are Drag racing in a straight line.
I like both cars, but the looks of the Mustang I like a bit more...
Nothin worth arguing about here...
Both are record setters in the Mfg history
