View Full Version : Santa got a new sleigh

Ryan

I finally got my new ride delivered today at Norris Lake. The snow and stinkin cold weather are bummin me out a bit. It might get up to 50 on Sat. If the water's smooth, I'm going to hit the water.

Huge thanks to Footin for finding this one for me. Now I/we need to find that guy a boat!
And of course Esteban for arranging everything.

It seemed like a lot of red at first glance... Until I thought of it like a drop-top Ferrari.

I'm gearing up to tackle my wish list over the winter:
- just replaced a missing reflector on the trailer
- had a heater, guide-pole covers and mc decals installed before shipping
- get two seats recovered (slight seam seps but I won't put it off as long as my last boat - deciding whether to drive over to Viper or ship them), [ahem, further supporting the TN economy ;) ]
- add a subwoofer/mono amp, looking at Memphis
- a couple of switch covers
- some new wheels. I would prefer larger rims but just got new tires (and bearings).
- a depth puck and relay.

What else am I missing?
I'm 50/50 on whether to carpet the ballast tanks. I like that look from the OG xstar/x2 - not sure it's worth it.
I might have a chrome shield decal made for each hockey stick and remove the little white mc decals.

Btw, if anyone hears of a red, black or white tandem axle trailer available for this hull please let me know. Shoot, I'd actually take any color and paint it.

Maybe someone out there wants to easily push a trailer around the garage and doesn't like a tandem axle. If so, I'm up for a swap + cash.

That reminds me, I forgot to add trailer mounted boat buckles to my list.

Flat hollow. Way up on the northeast arm. Lots of smooth water, except for now. It was pretty choppy today.

Are you getting on the water this weekend or did you already winterize? Slick bridges and snow coming down from Loveland was a little nutty this morning.

Great Choice. That is the exact boat/color scheme that I was torn between. I went with all white, haven't regretted it but agree completely about the Ferrari comment. I tow with the bimini on all the time. I have carpet in the back compartments and like it. If it hasn't had the hard tanks out and 750lb sac's plumbed in thats the best move I ever made on my X1.

The boat ran great and the weather finally cooperated with water temps read between 48-51 with air at 50 deg... and almost NO WIND. Nice and warm with 2 rash guards, a surf hood, neo gloves and my trusty 3/2mm was just fine.

My wife and I skied. My buddy wakeboarded and my fearless 2y/o wanted to jump in, TWICE. It sure is nice to have a heater to warm up my zany daughter.

That little girl of mine is so fearless and determined it's amazing. She wanted in that water so bad. We started off just putting her feet in, thinking that she'd feel the cold and clamor back in the boat. Just the opposite. She started taking off her clothes to get in. Again, thinking she'd just get her legs in, she just jumped! She got out, dried off for a second then jumped in again. I'm glad I had a heater installed to get her warmed up.

Indeed! It's so fun to do something just a little close to the edge of being stupid but totally fun. Those moments pay dividends like crazy as I get back to my job of herding cats (ideas, promotions and projects). It's nice to be sore too, every little wince makes me smile as I'm reminded of a helluva good time on Saturday!

I was pleased with the ski wake, a little softer than I remember from other times I've skied this hull (could have been a lighter load). BUT, I'm really excited to put this meaty wake to good use. I can't wait to dive harder into wakeboarding and enjoy the fun & smiles that'll come from that torture.

22mph stock 700lbs ballast, full gas, 5 gal of antifreeze ;) two adults and 5 smiling little kids.

Ryan
12-02-2013, 02:29 PM
Looking at pics and video, I see I was totally breaking at the waist and flattening the ski going into my off-side wake crossings, and needing a second tug after the second wake vs coasting. Maybe it's weight distribution from having more people on the port side. Maybe I chickened out.

My bad habits were certainly spoiled by my previous boat, PS190. It'll take a little practice to get the hips up, handle low and edge through. I'm optimistic though. It can't be too hard to learn to edge better, right?

Here's the ski wake at 34mph.

New wheels are on order to install before I pack the boat up for winter storage. Might get a few inches of snow here on Fri.

And I need to measure the hockey stick - I'm thinking of making a black & chrome shield to replace the little white MC decals to tie in with the chrome-trimmed big MC decals. I need to drop some into photoshop and see how it'll look.

I finally got my tires on my new wheels. These are HiSpec Series07 with grey inlays (looks like gunmetal), with polished Al spokes. I'm stoked with how well they match tower design. I painted the hubs and lug nuts semi-gloss enamel black. Thanks for the new wheels Peter! I'll try to get another in the daylight before I tow this boat to storage. I can't wait to buff the fenders. Even though it was a balmy 25 deg, I cut the night short with just the wheels since the fenders are covered in ice. I think the rubbing compound would have gone on like peanut butter.

I've been waiting to get new wheels on the trailer before towing off to winter storage. We got dumped with 6" this weekend. Seeing it was coming my son and I jumped in the boat and ran tie-down straps from tip to tail and a couple side to side to support the weight. That and brooming it off several times has been fine.

Before & After. (don't worry about those lines around the transom, they're not scratches, just ice on the gel)

Thanks for the heads up. So, you're saying there's a reason MC only used them for '07 huh? How wide spread was the issue? Sad thing about that is I wouldn't know if one fell off while driving. Now I'll hear a little voice in my head when going in reverse. At least they make the boat go really fast, right?

The only welds I heard issue on was the top hoop on the tower (this has a new one).

These last few days have been super cold... relatively speaking. I think Seal got into the 30's overnight. We are back on track and into the 70's tomorrow.

That is pretty cold for OC! I just looked up surfline and am surprised that your weather conditions at this moment for surfing are almost as cold as what I skied for Thanksgiving with North of the pier at 57 & air at 54 (vs my 49 & 50).

I love what the internet does for nostalgia with sites like surfline. I used to pull up Kevin & Bean or Mark & Brian (until they went off the air) too. I haven't hit any of those for like a year.
