Check WakeMakers for your ballast needs. They sell really slick kits to install factory like ballast into older boats like ours. I ran new bags, all on separate thru-hulls and pumps. 650lb bag fills in approx 4 mins. Super nice install and really easy. They're really helpful too.

The bearing is bad and you can hear it. It's original so it's just time for a new one.

That is where I plan to start scoping out my options. I'm sure they can help me. I don't think the ballast system is going to cost a lot but it is my first priority, then wrap, repairs, and windshield. I think im going to do separate thru hulls on separate pumps too.

I have meetings set up with a couple vinyl wrap companies this week and next. Excited to start working on these.

When you say "thru-hulls" did you install new inlet and new over flow for each bag? Drilled holes yourself?

How much for the sacs? No clue how much they go for. It they Dont sell I'll drag the new boat down and ilk see what kind of wake if any my boat can throw...if its half decent I'll buy as long as we can work out an agreement for me to borrow a board for a family vacation planned for July. No way I can spring for a surf board this year.

Yeah I did. They fill/drain from the same thru-hull and have an overflow vent. The pumps are reversible and really fast. Drilling is simple, I used magnets to mark the holes.

Hey, CBryan, I'll make you a deal... If you Buy Traxx's sacs, I'll GIVE you a wakeboard. I have an older Liquid Force Trip 133 in the rafters you're welcome to. I figure it helps spread the sport. It's got older Double Up Ultra Clamp wraps on it, and they're a little bagged out so they fit bigger feet. I'm size 8, and they fit me as easily as my buddy's size 11. It may be a bit small for you to really shred, but you'll have zero troubles learning to ride on it, and it's a great board for the Fam.

Unless you're referring to a surfboard, then I can't help you...

That looks great. I will forward this photo to my installer.

I'm not putting a limiters on my set up so I was wondering, do you have thru hulls for discharge on the side of the boat or does it only push out the bottom to drain? How do you know its drained without looking at it.

Traxx822
11-14-2013, 11:03 AM
I'm worried I might not have enough room to do a plumbed sack in the front. I guess I could put one in the center infloor cooler (where the ski locker would normally be but its a cooler) and I doubt I could get any real weight in there to justify plumbing it.

I could install one of those pump hook ups to the front under the seat in the fiberglass. I forget the brand but it basically is a switch controlled pump to fill bags not hardlined into the boat. The unit is hardlined but the hose is all that is needed then to fill the bag. Nothing hanging over the side. (long ramble)

Ok here is what I think will work the best.

Three pumps. One for center and each rear locker. One drain and fill port for each.

If set up this way I will be able to fill or drain on any bag. Reducing time needed to fill or drain. If switching sides surfing, or if shaping the wake for wakeboarding I should be able to drain at least on the fly.

They drain through the bottom. When they're full, water comes out the vent on the side, when I'm draining, I just listen for the pitch of the pumps to change. I used Jabsco pumps, and they're loud. You can easily hear the pump get louder and hear the bags gurgle. At the end of the summer, I had the timing down. The ski locker bag drained in about 2-1/2 mins and the rear lockers about 4 mins. Running each bag on a separate intake and pump is crucial for a fast ballast setup, and also allows for tweaking on the fly. I have a 125lb bag on each side of the bow I manually fill while waiting for the auto stuff to do it's thing. I sink my boat with 2000lbs in like 5 mins.

Okay here is what I found from Wakemakers.

Johnson Pump (cheaper and more gph than Jabsco) 179.99 each
750# bags @$149.99each
Integral bow sack @$269.99
Switches @$1.49 each
Total @$1,114.41

Now they sell a complete kit that includes thru hulls, wiring, fittings etc and everything you need to do this. I have a skilled installer who has everything he would need to provide these things. And I can save some serious coin.

Johnson pump set up including thru hulls, wiring, hoses, clamps, fittings etc @$418.96 each
Plus bags @$569.97
Total @$1,826.85

$712.44 for wires and thru hulls???

Now they also offer something called the X Link. Which allows you to fill bag to bag. Apparently shortening time it takes to switch side for surfing. Beneficial yes, and may be worth it if you guys also think it is worth it. Cost is @$289.99 plus an additional $20 cost per bag for the added drain valve.

Making my al a cart order total @$1,444.40 to include the X Link.

Oh yeah, plus install.

What do you guys think? I'm ready to order this stuff. X Link or not?

X link won't benefit you unless you're running one pump for the two locker bags. It comes with a reversible Johnson pump to swap the water between bags. If you're planning on running each bag on it's own pump/thru-hull, then just flip one to drain and the other to fill. Takes the same amount of time.

So after following the Naughty thread there was a point that came up about SeaDek in place of carpet might not be a good idea. Talking about foot smells, hard to clean and easy to stain.

So I went ahead and ordered the Mylar template sheets so I can send back my custom order.

I'm going to use the same design I did on the rear swim pad. Same colors. The beveled blue edge will only be against the seat bottoms.

I mention that because it will be separated individual pads to do the whole floor. Due to access panels, cooler etc. There Mont be a beveled edge on all if those areas. It will be cut but not beveled.

I am worried, my floor is grey in color when I pulled up the carpet and I think that would contrast. Maybe I will paint the edge of where minor areas will be exposed white. Maybe leave it.

And I still haven't settled on a floor design yet.

I made the $875.00 deposit this afternoon. He showed me some paper renderings, he is going to email me higher quality ones this evening.

Its is becoming a reality now, and for cheaper than I thought. If I keep my cost down like this on the SeaDek floor I might be able to get that Garmin with radar

what in the world do you need radar for?

The Garmin unit I want is a chart plotter with WX Radar weather. Coincidentally the unit is also compatible with XM radio but I doubt I will use it for that.

I want to travel with my boat. I went to the outer banks with it last year. Would have been nice to know where I was, how much fuel I'm using, altitude, temp, breadcrumbs, distance and time to destinations, marked channels since I'm not familiar with any of these areas I go to. I could only look at maps and study and have to remember it all, and then put it to real life navigation. With this, I could pin point all the coves and hot spots of lake of the Ozarks, or the outer banks, key west, whatever I want. And just have confidence I'm not going to bottom out if I don't want to.

Of course, and on map weather radar. Nuph sed about that.

I could use it anywhere inland waterways and lakes and North America.

Then I have to add 3D mapping depth finder.

And some how fit it all on my dash

No, with Garmin you have to input the data, but after a few times it gets pretty accurate.

You can subscribe to WX and not pay the extra for XM. The weather is not a cheap subscription but since I already have it for the airplane, I can use the same account.

I bought mine off a fellow TT member. SGoyal.

For some reason I got a bad batch and a few led lights went out on each so he sent me 4 new replacement rings and I just need to switch them out.

Here is a quick shot of what they look like in my boat.

Fyi these are the brightest on the market. They can be seen clearly in daylight.

When I go downtown with the boat I drop in at the public launch in Summit Argo.

It's a pretty fun ride through the city. You can stop at Dicks last resort and grab some food. And couple other places too.

We do go through the lock and hit the lake. But if the chop is too bad you might not want to take the wife out. It can be very choppy. Idle speed impossible. Either stop or keep the bow up. Lol.

But I know you want this photo

The lock is so quick it's over before you know it.

And there is no reason you can't. I'm just saying if it's really bad. I've been out there when we were clearing the next wave in the air. It was pretty intense. But my wife and other girls go out it's no big deal.

A prostar could handle it. I see 16ft fishing boats out there.

I literally just sent the Mylar plastic templates in last week. Since SeaDek is moving their facility this week I'm guessing that it might be just a bit before they get the quote to me. But I'm guessing in the $700-$900 range installed.

And as far as budget goes, it's priceless to me. But I'm kinda broke  check out the sled jacked thread, I lucked into some extra insurance money. Plus Mike's saving me over $2k on the wrap by doing it for me.

Traxx is it water under the tint? I know when I have my trucks done it's usually a couple days before it looks perfect.

The tint guy I use is probably one of the best in the Midwest, I wish I could show you the quality of my boat windows and trucks he has done.

I'd let it sit in the sun for a couple days before I took it back unless it's more than normal water under the tint.

Ever used this tint shop before?

Bubbles are only normal if the tint hasn't cured. Assuming the websites were all done at the same time, there shouldn't be done that are good and some still with bubbles.

Only $1500 before radar, tranducer & etc. I already pay for the XM radar for my Garmin 696 i use when I fly and they assured me the same account could be used on another device. But at $2k this will be held off for a little while.

With transducer @$900.00

I have no clue why my 696 aviation receiver won't work on these units. All it is is a XM reciever that downloads weather. Its not like its a real radar. At least it will look cool on the dash :D

I don't think that will work since the MMDC plugs into the ECU - iirc.

sethro
04-06-2014, 12:39 PM
Right. Basically all the engine data is sent to the MMDC, then the MMDC controls the servos that move the needles in the gauges. I think it would be way more complicated than simply finding an MMDC, but I'm certain it could be done with lots of expense and expertise.

Well, it was a total pain in the *** to get my stuff back. I finally picked it up yesterday and dropped it off. It will need to be redone but at this point I need my boat and will redo it next season.

It doesn't look terrible but you better believe I didn't pay a dime.

I also ordered and had installed new alternator, rebuilt water pump seals and bearings and rudder seals.

I'll post up specs for windshield part numbers and the bearings for the water pump. Skidim didn't carry them and had to go to a bearing company and spend hours searching, but we found them.

All the through hulls. Stainless on the upper hull and deck, brass on the bottoms. All the shut off valves are easy access and in the same general area right under center rear seat cushion. Changed the bilge drain from black plastic to stainless so it would match. We would have liked it to be in lineor level with the ballast drain however, was worried about it draining the bag via gravity when surfing by putting the bags above the drain itself when pitched nose up. So we took all the room we could grab. It is what it is.

Looks sweet! Where did you get the ballast switches? I assume they are replacements?

I got the switches and switch covers from wakemakers. I got the panel out of a catalog.

First my new rims from thatsmrmastercraft (http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/member.php?u=13694)

Nice wheels ;) I painted the drums black on mine ... A $3 project ! Are the chrome hubs hard to remove? They look great.

not hard to remove at all; the caps have a grommet in them for packing grease so I removed the bearing buddies I had on there and just installed the caps since it is basically the same thing. So in most cases they don't need removed unless you are doing new bearings.

The trailer is hot on the list to get repaired. Needs new bunks some fiberglass work from a previous owner who damaged it, paint the brake drums black like you did & ramp n clamp.

agreed I think the style of wheel was a good choice. Looks even better in person.

I notice the thread said winter upgrades, but this seems to have become a full time job. Seasonal work sucks anyway.

Boat it looking great! It's hard to believe this based on what it was. Nice job.
