Going to resurrect an old thread as tomorrow will be Veterans Day.

Thank all those serving and that have served, along with your families for your service and dedication.

I just returned from my 8 year olds school program, where the program was dedicated to the veterans. Is was a really great program. There were many vets from our community at the program and all were appreciative for the kids. Each Vet was recognized. One vet asks to speak, and of course he was allowed. He was a Vietnam veteran, who had been wounded twice, and told a quick summary of his return and how the young people treated the vets. He said that it took many years after Vietnam for the American people to understand the value of a soldier and their duty to the country. He said that yesterday he was watching TV and the protests that were occurring over the election and was disgusted with the way these young people were acting. He said he was thinking these people have given nothing yet probably never thought of those that have given so they could protest, but even the way they were protesting is disgusting.

He went on to say that later in the evening, there was a knocking on his door. He went to answer and it was 2 girls from the softball team, and they told him they had made an American flag for him, and it had some inscription on the back of the flag, which I didn't understand what the inscription said. It was getting pretty emotional, so it was hard to hear the whole inscription. But he was so elated that high school kids would do that for him, and was also elated that the youth in our area was not acting like those on TV. He turned and saluted my sons classmates and said thank you.

Not too many dry eyes.

Thank you to all veterans for the sacrifices that you endure for all of us. I pulled some pictures of my grandparents and my wife's grandfathers for my daughter's school program yesterday-all served during WWII. Very difficult for me to imagine our world during WWII and to put myself in their place during this time. Most had multiple siblings serving as well. Greatest generation title is very well deserved.
