Went out tonight...not exactly roughing it. 70* air and 70* water, but I wanted to bust out my new O'Neill Hammer wetsuit :D

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006ZOK9SS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Never used one before, and I really liked it! Couldn't even feel the water. I'm sure that will change in another 15* or so, but I will be skiing into November at this rate.

Also got some video with my new iPhone 5S slow-mo camera; coming soon...

70/70 is early June skiing for us. Considering taking one last run this Saturday before putting the ski up for the year. It will most likely be more like 50/60. 60 being the water. will most likely go with a wetsuit jacket and tough it out. Not quite dry suit weather yet.

Went out last week, it was about 74 (air)/65 (water) here in Iowa. I have 3/4 wetsuit that made it very comfortable to be in the water. I would go out again, but I can't get anyone to go when they have to wear a sweatshirt in the boat. I am hoping for one my fluke 70 or 80 degree day to go out. I need to get some die hard skier friends.

Yep, I was out on higgins a couple weeks ago. It was pretty cold but I don't own any suit. I'm asking for one for Christmas this year so we can start the season earlier next year.

Go for the O'Neil bag suit. I use mine in the spring and by the time you don't need it anymore the air and water are getting warm quickly enough to tough out a run without going to a wet suit. At least that's what I do.

I'm going old school this weekend. Regular swim trunks and a mouthguard so I don't chip a tooth due to convulsive teeth chatter. Forecast predicts frosty mornings for this weekend with miles and miles of glassy water.

We skied Saturday morning, air temp was low 50s. Not sure on water temp but there wasn't any steam rolling off the lake so I'm guessing it wasn't much warmer than the low 60s. Sans wetsuit by the way.

I think that was probably it for the season though, the temps are getting into the mid/low 30s at night. A little too cold for my liking.

Was out last Sunday. Water was "refreshing" at 67 degrees F. Looking good for this Sunday too. Just have to hit the three hours of warm air temps per day to maximize comfort. No wet suit yet. Last year we made it until the end of November. This year, weather seems to be running cooler so that might be a real stretch goal.

Well everything ended up going as planned. It was raining and 42 when I left for work at 7:00. Raining and 54 at noon. At 2:00 when we left work the sun was breaking out so we decided to try for that last run and get the remaining boat, lift and dock out. Definitely dry suit weather with 54 for the air and 61 for the water temp. By 5:30 we'd each got a run in and had everything put away for the winter.......

Nothing picture worthy, but I did make it out this morning before the wind picked up. Just went it shorts and a heater top. Chilly, but I'd do it again. Water was 57 and air was 48. I'm loving the Radar Strada bindings for cool weather skiing.

It's my boat from here on out as my neighbors and ski buddies all winterized their boats. I'm the only one left with my dock and rails still in the water.

Went out for the last time is year. Not really roughing it here in SC. Hartwell was probably 70* and the air was 65/70*. Nobody on the water, early before the wind kicks up, and a nice little fog from humidity. No need for a wetsuit, not toughing it out until you get back in the boat. A couple short runs, wife made a few runs, both kids pull some wake jumps then pulled her out of the water.

Drain the oil (into a pan of course) at the ramp. Pump the tranny fluid out at the ramp too. Five minute ride back to the house, change the oil filter and put the fluids back into her. Drain the block. Suck up 5 gallons of anti-freeze while fogging down 1 can of fogging oil into the carb. Let her sit overnight then pull all the plugs and let her drain real well. Pull the swim platform and read her a nice bedtime story.

Hate to put her away so early. But all us east-coasters may remember this time last year hurricane Sandy was bearing down on NY. Brought 3ft of snow to the WV mountains and a foot of snow to the NC mountains. The ski resorts in NC opened for Halloween last year...

I guess it's time to pull out the winter toys, :)

Ski was great. Easy for me to get up on and there's still plenty of room to advance. Bindings were good to start out on because I didn't know what I want, but I'd like to get some nicer ones for next season. My biggest complaint was that the laces would often work themselves loose after just a few minutes, and the fact that they are so long and whip around sometimes.

Yeah, I had hoped to get mine out one more time, but I just don't think its going to happen. Lows in the upper 20's for the next few nights, and barely squeaking into the 50's for highs. In fact, I am probably going to go drain the block tonight, just to make sure no damage occurs. Its in a storage unit, and I don't think it would get cold enough long enough to freeze the block, but I will sleep much better after draining. Probably winterize then in the next week or 2. Giving up is a sad thing.

Jealous. Went thru rdu today. You didn't tell me I was supposed to bring my ski. 62 is still very decent.
My stuff is packed away unless I do the polar bear ski in December.

Are you talking about the Skier's Pier event? I did that one last year but went surfing. Great event too bad Ron and Mary are leaving the company. At least that was what I was told.

Anytime anyone comes through Raleigh. Give me a call, message, something. I'm always looking for an excuse to goof off. Skiing while goofing off, even better.

With the pictures you have been posting, I'm thinking about making a special trip to Raleigh!!!!

Yup. Have not done it yet. Usually conflicts w a neighborhood Xmas party. And, the weather historically seems to drop like crazy a few days prior.... Or I'm a sissy. Both are good explanations.

Surfing could be a fun way to go and not have 25 deg air hitting our face at 30-40mph...

Went out with Hammer this morning for my first set on my new ski. Water was a brisk 61* in their shallow lake. BRR.

61 is trunks and a heater top conditions. I envy you and Hammer at that site. Looks spectacular. I think I'll be breaking out my drysuit for this weekend's runs with water in the upper 40's now.

55 Degrees in the air. Water (while officially unknown) numbed you in about 10 seconds flat.

Unique perspective how did you get that? Looks like your ski and shoulders are way out of alignment - hope it ended well!.

Yeah I used the Radar version of the clincher gloves for my last Dry Suit run this year for the first time. I run double fixed boots on my ski and typically don't have any issues getting out of the water but when you add the drag from a baggie Dry Suit if I didn't hit it just right I was having difficulties.

Once I figured out where to hold the rope with the clinchers coming out was easy. Only problem I could see was as you state letting go quickly might become an issue. I also will typically drop one hand off the rope while turning and found getting my hand back on the handle a bit challenging. It beats a missed start but I personally can only see using the clinchers for Dry Suit runs.

The fall here was while barefooting. The photo is a screen shot taken with a GoPro mounted on the handle. The photo shows the split second before impact. Shoulders are out of whack and my wife says I look a little "twisted". Chiropractor on Monday. I posted both the runs I took (including the one with this fall) in the barefootin photos thread after this one.

Burner-
I love my clinchers! They allow me to ski longer (2 laps of my lake instead of 1) and pull harder. Yeah, there is the issue discussed, but it seems a fair trade off at this point yet. I'll own a pair for as long as I can ski!

Again, nothing picture worthy, but I did make it out late morning. Air and water both about 47 degrees. But with the sun and relatively light wind, it was plenty comfortable. Skied until exhausted and never really did get cold. Strada bindings (or any closed toe system) are very nice for cold water.

However, I decided to fully winterize instead of just drain, and I pulled my rails out of the water so I guess I'm done. :(

I'm actually a little disappointed in myself for winterizing and yanking the rails out of the water. I had fully planned to simply drain the manifolds/block/heater and hope for another time or two before it froze over. I was a little bummed that nobody wanted to ski today (at least I had a driver) and I think more than anything that put me in the mood to "pull the plug" on the season.

Diehards and opportunity are hard to find this year.. Ottawa is about half way between Rock Falls and Plainfield...maybe we can set up a die hard ski day late next season.

We winterized and put the boat into storage today.
Of course the best way to warm the oil for an oil change is to drag around skiers/boarders. Four of us got out for short runs. Feet do get cold in a hurry in 42 degree water. Here's my oldest son...

I had the beautiful lake all to myself this weekend! Got some crazy looks from the fishermen...LOL I had planned to ski until Thanksgiving but I'm still obsessed with it at the moment and can't seem to find a stopping point for this season. I'm loving every second of it!

Got to ski one last weekend for this year. I'm being forced out of the water because my boat needs to be winterized. Wanted to say thanks to all of you for your encouragement as I tried to learn to ski this summer at age 50. I instantly got hooked and can't wait until spring when I can get back in the water behind the boat. And as I've been told many times before...if there ain't a picture....it didn't happen...so I attached a few from yesterday. I had a ball all weekend and I think it shows!!!:woohoo:

Alright guys - I've got a last hurrah planned for Norris (TN) over Thanksgiving and the weather forecast is starting to get me down. I'm really excited to use my new boat for the first time so I'm gearing up to get a drysuit. Water temp just dropped another 5 deg, down to 60. Still adds up to 100 with highs in the 40s on Ths & Fri. I'd just use my full wetsuit, but those air temps are a little brisk. Maybe I'll just get a neo hood.

Re-winterizing will be a bit of a chore at those temps :eek3:

Air 50 + water 49 = Icicle Toes ... but the sun was out (kinda) and it was fun! Wait a little longer, then it will get cold :)
