Hi all, I am new to the forum. I have read a lot of threads and found this forum to be very informative and have appreciated all the help 501s has given me. I have just ordered a 2014 X30 but on the advice of the dealer I did not order the factory rear facing tower lights. Can any of you recommend where I can buy good quality rear facing tower lights that will work with my 2014 ZFT4 tower. Thanks I appreciate any advice I can get.

Why not? They haven't said anything to me.

Here is a fairly recent thread where they added an aftermarket light bar from Rigid. Not sure if this is what you are looking for but thought I would give it a shot.

And then you also have....

$1000 usd for 3 lights? OUCH! That's insane.

I was told the factory ones are $1,700 and were not worth the money. That was the dealers recommendation. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well you knew what kind of pricing was going to show up when "mastercraft by design" appeared anywhere in the web address. :D

Of course if you were laying out $100K for a boat, what's another $333 per light?

I will also note that I think I read in some thread that the MCBD light housing caused some issues with the rope but I could be completely mistaken.

A grand for a rear bar now? Ouch is right.

Found mine on sale cyber Monday... About a month away.

They work well, impressive for the size.

Do these light up the rear enough to wakeboard behind? Or is that just crazy?

Great question that is what I want the rear lights for. Want to be able to see my kids when they are surfing at night

Just my opinion, but kids surfing at night might not be a great idea. There are a members on here that won't advocate your surfing after dark at all.

So wakeboarding after dark would be out?

Kids surfing at night may not be a great idea... I agree. Fortunately, mine are a bit older (Early to mid teens) but my wife is not on side with the night surfing yet. Still some work to do.... Likely install the rear lights so I can see at night when I end up swimming alone in the evening.

I've seen ppl wakeboard using an X2 ... They surfed more at night than the day in 2012, that's why I added them last winter.

Didn't use them a ton, but they do light up the surf and board wakes nicely.

We surf at a ton at night, have the lake to ourselves.

We don't use rear facing lights just the underwater lights, you'd be surprised how much light reflects up. We also will use glow sticks on the surfers so we can find them when they go down.

My underwater lights are spread out so... +1 on that...

Is it legal to surf and wakeboard in Canada after dark? It is illegal here in AL.

Can you run with underwater lights on? I just bought mine this summer and PO said it would burn out the bulbs because they need the water to keep them cool. Is this true?

Not I'm my opinion. ;)

The underwater lights do an amazing job lighting up the water. I was surprised how effective they are.

No, it's not legal to be behind the boat. An hour after dusk is all that's allowed.

and in Alberta in summer, dusk can come at 11 pm :)

We have done both and while some people frown upon it, don't knock it till you try it. It's usually totally calm, quiet, and not a another boat to be found. Wakeboarding is tougher without the light, we usually don't jump, just carve around and enjoy the glass.

I used to have 4 of the 55watt blue lights on my Moomba tower and they did an OK job of lighting up the wake but it was just that, ok. They cost $200 for the whole light bar however, not $1k!

Anyone know the part number for Rear Facing Light Pod on the ZFT4 tower? On the MastercraftByDesign website they have them for $800 (search 'pod'). My dealer quoted me some for $1250. They look exactly the same.

We used to wakeboard, and surf, at night..... Usually, only on the nights with a lot of moonlight. One night (while on a friends boat), we found debris in the water. The hard way.

The debris was an early 80s ski nautique, that was full of drunk college kids. No nav or anchor lights on, drunk as hell, skinny dipping, behind the boat, in the middle of the lake. Luckily, our driver had his $hit together, and we ended up just brushing the sides of the boats together. Had he not noticed, that by turning in the easy direction to miss the boat, he would have ran several people over........ the situation would have been much worse than $1100 worth of gel work.

Moral of the story- Lights help, but not enough to totally override darwins theory.

$800 is a lot more appealing than $1250. I might do it. Did anyone install these themselves? Difficult?

....much like towing an X-Star behind a Toyota Tacoma .... It will pull it... Until something bad happens
No night water sports for us.... I got kids , a boat, and other boaters to think about....

I does sound fun to surf behind....

But it's SO much fun...if you're safe. And no other boats out.
