Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum and apologize in advance if I am putting this in the wrong part of the forum.

I have PM'd a few people who have or did have listed boats for sale, I am in search of my first and I am keen on an early 90's 190, although I have been recommended a 205 by one of the forum contributors so whilst I investigate the measurements of those I continue my search considering both :)

I live in Australia and have shipped plenty of cars for the USA but never a boat, anyway, the guy I trust to ship only ships from Gardena CA so I would prefer to source something from the West Coast to save on shipping something across the country!

So, after all of that, I have found this 1991 Prostar 190 listed on Craigslist in Phoenix, I am hoping some on here could provide some comment on both the boat and its price please?

Here is a link:

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/boa/4109471377.html

I am a bit reluctant to attempt to contact the seller as they provide no source of contact other than through craigslist, I prefer to call and speak to the person (see, we are weary of scammers over here too :) )

Any comment would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Shane

Looks clean. I say give them your work number. There will obviously be plenty of questions to ask, so you'll need to talk with them anyway. U say let them pau, but don't give out your home number right away.

Thanks for that, problem I have is the time difference between here and there, it's always easier for me to ring there as it is night time here when day time there, so it inconveniences me and not the seller :)

They put the constrictions on IMO, let them deal with it.

Truly, that boat looks like a steal at that price. If I was on the west coast I would have jumped in the truck and knocked on their door already with cash in hand. I guess there is also the slight possibility it's some sort of CL scam, but it sure looks legit...

That said, to the original poster of this thread many/most folks on Craigslist don't put their phone numbers in their ads as the scammers will even call or text you. However if you send an email (with your phone number) through the Craigslist system the ad issuer will get the message and should get back to you. Still, if you are out of the country and your phone number is obviously overseas the seller may shy away but it doesn't hurt to try. Good luck.

If you're still looking for help, I'm willing to go take a look at it for you. It's pretty much on my way to/from work.

That's a brilliant offer, thanks very much!!

Looks like a steal to me. I'd email them with your number, but volunteer to call them on your dime once they give you their number.

Take frank up on his offer and tell the seller you want to have someone check it out ASAP.

Not sure how you could pull off a lake test, but may want to do that as well. Although if I remember, franks responses on here seem to be technical and good. You can look that up.

You can offer the seller extra cash or full pride offer if they help with the coordination of shipping to CA, which just needs to include them helping someone load it or hook it up...

Good luck. Looks like a sweet boat in good shape.

It looks to be in amazing shape, in and out. So, like others have said, looks to be a steal at that price. If Frank can verify condition, I think you'd be laughing with that boat.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try and contact the seller and if all sounds okay I'll ask Frank to have a look on my behalf.

Thanks Frank for your kind offer!

Might want to get on Skype with Frank while he's looking at the boat if possible. Makes it easy to address any questions in one visit.
Good luck. Pretty boat.

Heck just last week a one owner '91 PS190 in my area brought $8,000 AND it had over 3 times the hours on it as the one in this thread, had been run in brackish water in FL for about 7 years of it's life, and it's galvanized trailer w/broken brakes had enough corrosion the seller even said he would recommend replacing it at some point. That said the boat itself looked very well kept, corrosion free, fade free, plus the seller seemed honest on it's history to a T... Point is this yellow/white boat seems like thousands off what it could bring but what do I know!

And that's part of my concern, as silly as it seems, it seems to cheap for what it appears to be.

Time will tell!

You will know when you start getting a lot of new spam in your in-box! Actually, if you want to send me your back account numbers, I could arrange payment and shipping for you. Don't worry if I have a foreign address, I just had to use that to avoid paying taxes on all that money that some dame in Argentina sent me because she couldn't get it out of her country without help!!

So, I e-mailed the seller, no contact at all in reply. I did state in the e-mail that I was in Australia but also told him I was able to get someone to physically inspect the boat on my behalf in Phoenix. So, not sure if that means he doesn't read his e-mail, doesn't want to deal with an Aussie, or if it's a scam.....

Never received a response from the seller and the listing has now been removed, guess I'll never know! :)

There was an ad for an awesome maybe 1990 green metal flake 190 in Dayton Ohio. It was on here and he keep dropping his price. No idea if it is still out there or not. I could use an excuse to go look at it. It is a long way to California here.

Also, as a 205 owner, the extra room is nice. There is a big difference between the two. I suggest you really understand the difference in the two prior to buying and shipping around the world. If you can identify how you will use the boat, people will chime in on here and help you figure out which may work best.

Thanks for your advice and you aren't the first to identify that in relality the 205 is more likely the better boat in my circumstances, we are a family of 6 so the extra space is definitely a bonus, I was concerned that the 205 would be wider and thus harder to ship but have been forwarded a copy of the owners manual and both have the same beam so should transport okay, I do need to confirm that the extra length doesn't present a more difficult problem. My shipper is already telling me I am likely to take up the space of two cars in the container so would need to pay for two spaces, if the extra length then means a car can't fit in front of the boat in the container and I have to pay for a third space in the container it becomes too cost restrictive. I'll sound out how that plays out :)

Wasn't a scam. I'm the new owner of the boat talked about in this thread. It was in Phoenix. Took off of work and drove from Colorado to check it out. It is as new inside and out, has 199 original hours, and has had regular yearly dealer maintenance. All the parts and repair receipts, and original manuals were included. Was stored inside in climate controlled garage. It has not been in the water since 3/2012. Color is White and Yellow, all decals intact, teak swim platform like new, engine looks unused, no rust stains, dirt, oil, etc. The boat has a two year old custom boat cover, and bimini top, and a four blade prop used twice. It had a $2,500 four speaker, Sony audio system installed in 2010. Sits on an excellent condition tandem axle trailer with disc surge brakes, new tires, bearing buddies, the "bow ring buddy lock" thing, folding trailer tongue, and chrome rims. Got it home and first thing was a proper winterizing. Not too cold in Phoenix, so their idea of winterizing is a different thing there. Washed the road dirt off, and wiped down the interior. Only problem found is that the battery seems to be bad. Can't hardly wait until spring!!

Congratulations!! I'm cool with that and I hope the boat brings you many hours of enjoyment! The seller never contacted me so it's not like it was likely to happen anyway so I'm glad someone on here scored it :) All good, I'll find something!!
