The flasher on my wife's 2000 Tahoe constantly clicks even when the turn signal is not on.

I've tried replacing the flasher, no good.

I've taken the cover off the steering colum and shook down all the wires no help, I did discover a chaffed wire from the Tow button and fixed it.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the link!

"Now I have taken the fuse out for my hazards which stops the clicking noise if i have the hazards turned on (but no visual signal). Now when I want to use the turn signal, I have to depress the hazards and choose left or right."

Went out and removed the Hazard fuse, and like the quote said, the clicking stops when the fuse is removed and the hazards are on, to get the turn signal to come on the Hazard switch needs to be "on"

So the flasher gets power or ground from the Hazard fuse?
Need to go check out a Chilton at the Library and start shooting wires?

I found a couple other discussions but lost the links.
One refers to a defective switch.
The other refered to a way to remove one of the fuses and use 4 ways and turn signals at the same time to make turns.........

kinda sounds like a bad relay. if the bulbs are good, and the fuse is alright, i'd replace that next.

Hey,

I just talked to one of our techs and he said you might have a bad turn signal switch or crossed wires in the steering colum. I will try to send a wiring digram?
Sorry can not pin point this type of problem online?

Thanks! Since I don't have any parts to play with I guess I'll go disconnect the wire harness and see if it stops clicking...

I did get the Chilton from the Library but I'm not the best at reading wire diagrams....

I'll try to post the diagram. don't get carried away tearing into it Multi function switch's ( T sig/ headlight switch ) go bad all the time there pretty pricey...... hear goes ..

It won't take a HTML doc. I can Email it to you through your regular email. I'm assuming it won't go through TMC's email either

Thanks, I went out and started messing with the steering colum to see if there was anything obvious. The best I can do is wiggle the hazard switch and the clicking will stop, but it will come back if the turn signal is used or the hazards are turned on. It will click a couple of times then stop.

So I guess I need to find a new multi-function switch????

Yep Here's something you can try from the shade tree 101 library. ( we have used this method in the shop with mixed results ) I'm assuming your 4way is on the top of the column. Spray some CRC or WD40 down and around the 4way switch then blow compressed air down around the switch. Most of the time it is dirt or hair in the contacts that is causing the trouble this will clean it out some and not hurt any internals. Its worth a shot, alot of those multi funtion swicthes are around 300 smackers

I'll give it a try, if it doesn't work the switch is $175 at Autozone, plus I'll get a 10% discount so it's not as bad as I expected.
