View Full Version : I hit a log!

We hit a submerged log yesterday. Terrible noise. We shut everything down, made sure we weren't taking on water and started it back up. Motored idled fine but in gear we had a vibration. Limped it back to the ramp and when out of the water there was only minor damage to the prop - not what I expected from the vibration.

Questions - does pretty minor damage (slightly bent blade) cause noticable vibration? After prop repair anything else that needs to be checked out?

Boat is 1990 PS 190. Thanks!

While your prop is off check your shaft with a dual indicator. I did same thing, same boat actually. But I think I hit something direct because when mine hit I instantly had such a terrible shake you couldn't get it over idle speeds

slightly bent prop can throw the prop out of balance... get a dial indicator to check if shaft is true.

hopefully prop took the brunt of it.

Sorry, what should my tolerance be?

I think Tolerance is .003?

I got some lake weed from the shallows taking boat out end of last season.

Definite vibration. It doesn't take much...

hit a log this year as well. The prop didn't look bent at all at first glance. In short, I had read it doesn't take much but was surprised how little will cause serious vibration.

I noticed a post a few days back but can find it for the life of me, the post had a new and a used OJ prop I think it was 13.7x17 or something like that $250???
