Getting a passport the old fashion way from the US Post Office isn't going to well.

Appointments are 3-4 months out it seems like and on the days they except walk ins they only take 15 apps that day and the lines for those start forming at 5:30am.

Have any of you had or know anybody that has had any experience with getting a US Passport for the first time using www.uspassportonline.com or a similar website?

CIBT is the best in the business. They are fantastic to work with and I have gotten Visas as fast as 5 days through them. They keep in constant contact with you on the progress and you can speak to a live person anytime. You will not be disappointed working with them.

Where it is asking for proof of departure. I'm not traveling within the next 2 weeks. So do I still need that?

What's the cost for using this company rather than USPS?

Previously have gone to the regional office in Miami for renewals, had passport within the the day. Just a suggestion that if they have a regional passport office, might give it a try. Find it pretty pathetic that these days we need a second party vendor to work with the bureacracy of the US government to get a passport!

For the departure date proof, I have used a tentative itinerary or a mock itinerary that my travel department or travel agent can do for you. Your passport and/or visa is by no means tied to the mock dates. Good luck.

Have you tried alternatives to the post office--I think you have this option (http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/DetailsForm.aspx?AFID=130450&vs=0) in Waxahachie. Or maybe worth heading up to Big D (http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/DefaultForm.aspx).

Kinda funny about these Post Offices and Passports and how you can't hardly get in one to get the app submitted.

On my way to DFW this morning I decided to take the long way and go by the Alvarado, Tx. post office (they take walk ins). Got there I was the only one in the place, it took about 10 minutes and $136.00.

Now that you have it , I recommend a trip to Vitoria ,Brasil. Leave wife at home. Only danger is you may not want to come home.

I need to get my passport before Feb. '14 for my wedding in St John. I tried at my local post offices in Houston and the wait times for an appointment are crazy. How do you find out what offices accept walk ins?

Thank you sir. Found a location less than a mile from my office that says it doesn't require appointments. I'm going to drop by there in the morning and see what happens.

My fiance has been nagging me about getting this done for weeks now.

Thanks again.

15 day turn around is a little more than impressive. I renewed mine couple years ago and it took forever.

I'm thinking with the government shutdown that might affect passport processing. Lets hope yours got through before the involuntary vacation.

Anybody know any tricks for keeping the boarder agents from just stamping random pages on a passport. The UK (LHR) seems to be the worst about this. I can have half a page open and they will go a couple of pages in to the book and stamp in the middle of a blank page ruining it for any other stamps it seems like. The U.S. (JFK, DFW) is a little better, but not much.

nope ... random is how they do it ... i've had some stamp on another country's visa (i.e. india or China) and then they get pissed when i get there

I used to put it a little post it note on the sequential page as a helpful hint ... nope didn't work

Small trick that has worked for me is I will bend the passport open to the page I want stamped so when the agent flips through, that page opens up easier. my peeve is whem they stamp over other good stamps!

Don't complain. The worst type of passport is the one you have to lug around with "added pages". Kinda like having a wallet like George Costanza
