Hi all,

Can anyone recommend brand/type plugs and oil for a 454HO with rectangle-port heads? I bought my 1990 TriStar 220 a few weeks ago and want to complete a tune-up before I take it out again.

Thanks!

Whatever the manual says, let the big dog eat.

Upper left corner of this page - click "Downloads", "Resources", "Owners Manuals". There isn't one listed for the 1990 Tristar, but the 1989 Tristar or 1991 Maristar 240 manual have specs for a 454 that probably apply to yours.

I would go Valvoline VR-1 synth - or dyno - SAE 30 or Synth 10w30 - has lot's of ZDDP

I have Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30. Is that OK?

I would say no. 800/900 - but not to spark and oil debate... ;)

VR-1 has 1100/1000 for the older engines... 30% more than Mobil 1.

I also add a bottle of Hyperlube Zinc Replacement. http://www.hyperlube.com/c3/Zinc-Replacement-Additive-c7.html

I believe it's the same stuff Royal Purple calls Synerlic Technology.

I go synth... just because synth oil base can stand up to an overheat situation over dyno... but that's just me...

I like Royal Purple - but I can't find ZDDP numbers on them... plus I believe they use Hyperlube and call it Synerlic Technology

Mobil One 15w-50 has plenty of ZDDP.
