We have an '08 xstar, but it's pretty ****e for surfing. I'd like a killer surfing boat that's also good for amateur wakeboarders. Is the X46 the one?

X30. It does it all at a great price. Well great price compared to a Star or G.

X30 if you are a pointy bow guy, X25 for a pickle fork preference. The 30 probably edges slightly better for surf, 25 for wakeboarding. The 25 with stock ballast has a killer wakeboard wake, closest to your star for sure. The 25 for a great surf wave needs extra ballast for sure and tabs. Apparently the 30 from what I have read and according to my MC corp buddy does not need the surf tabs. All of these boats benefit from having a center tab, don't skimp on that.

From a layout perspective, the 30 has a bit longer main cabin, the 25 a wider bow area. The 30 adds the flip rear observer seats, the 25 has the flip stern "chill" seats. Either boat has some great features and way more versatile than your star year. I have a buddy that went from your generation Star, is a devout wakeboarder and is on his third 25 if that says anything about the wakeboard wake:D

Check my thread comparing X30 to G23... Wake vids with only stock ballast.

Mastercraft line.... X30 or x10

46 is huge... Take a lot of weight... 30 has more usable storage and doesn't take much work to surf

I would think the X30 would have a better Surf wake than the X25. The problem I had with the X25 is getting it to list to the side your surfing on. This may have something to do with the picklefork hull design. The X30 is more a traditional hull that IMO would produce a cleaner larger surfwake..

I have owned an X25, but not an X30. Only seen photos of the X30 wake and I was impressed.

For what you are looking to do, the X30 wins hands down. Effortless to set up a good surf wake, and I still love to board behind it.

Thanks guys! But has anyone tried surfing behind the new x46 (2014 with new hull design)? The youtube vids make it seem like it's made for surfing and I like the bigger size over the x30/25.

May be too soon to expect any decent feedback as it was only released less than a month ago.

Not seeing much love for the x10... Anyone know why? I bought a 13 and its an amazing wake for surfing just a little shorter then the 30. Just wondering if there is a reason people just to the 30.

I didn't try anything else, I live on a rough rough rough lake and wanted the length to do everything else that comes along with living on a huge fun lake with bars and places to eat and what not. The 45 was the most popular boat on my lake for years, so I bought the 46 based on that and the 55 not fitting in my slip.

Stock ballast is not enough weight for me surf the 46 unless I have a gang of people on board. There were some custom bags made well before the boat was released that id ordered and canceled because they didn't seem big enough. Maybe they have something bigger at this point idk..

@mplv, so you're not able to surf with stock ballast? That's unfortunate.

How do you like the boat otherwise?

my size may have something to do with it, are there any boats that will surf well with stock ballast and just a driver on the boat?

I've got a star like yours and can get a pretty good surf wake with my ballast setup. I run full stock ballast all tanks, 1100# in the rear port locker, 750# in front of the spotter seat (fits perfect in there) and 180# of nautilus weights in the bow. All bags are filled/drained with the stock pumps. With only my wife in the boat I can free surf for miles. With 4-6 friends the wave is massive. It's no Enzo wave, it's tall and fairly close to the boat, but it's pretty nice. I've surprised people with how good it is. Only downside is goofy riders are out of luck.

And when i put the two sacks in the middle of the boat it makes a decent wakeboard wake.
