I plan on pulling the motor & transmission (as one unit) out of my í00 maristar 210 in the morning, but am unsure of the best place to attach the hoist chain. I have pulled the risers & disconnected all cables, wires, & lines in preparation. I had thought about bolting the chain across the motor to the tops of the manifold where the 4 riser bolts are on each side, but not sure if this would strain the motor in any way (also the bolts holding the manifolds to the heads are rusted pretty bad). There is a metal loop (looks like a lift point) at the front by the distributor, but Iím not sure that would support the entire assembly.
Where is the best place to secure the lift chain?

Thanks for any help,
Luke

When I pulled the engine and teams on my x10 we removed the headers and bolted the chain across. Had enough clearance with a standard hoist to get it out.

So you bolted to the manifold where the risers attach, or straight to the head?
The problem I'm having removing the manifolds is that the bolts heads are so rusted I am going to have to grind them off, & then pull the manifold off & use vice grips to get the bolts out... FUN!

Thanks,
Luke

Are you planning on removing the bracket that holds the ski pylon when you remove the motor and trans? I was surprised when I reinstalled my motor only I had to rotate the motor 90 degrees to clear the fiberglass at the top where the lounge pad goes and the pylon bracket then once it was down in I was able to rotate it back to line up with the trans. My motor had lift eyes on the front and rear corners so I hooked a chain diagonally and I removed the exhaust manifolds to lighten it up.

Hope that helps, Steve

Steve,
I already pulled the ski pylon as I want to pull this as a whole unit together. I have the one eye on the front of the motor, but haven't found one on the back. I'll take another look in the AM. I picked up a few hoist chains that have 90 deg mounting tabs that I think I'll just pull the 4 corner intake manifold bolts & use those as lifting points.

Thanks,
Luke
