Hey guys, realised that the dip stick and tube we have on our engine is totally wrong and very short so we cannot get an accurate reading on the oil level. Would anyone be able to measure their tube and dipstick length (including minumum to max) so we can compare it to what we have?

It would appear the Indmar 5.7l 350's should all be the same I think? Our engine is from 1996 if it does make a difference.

Thanks

I had a similar problem on mine - the PO had broken off the handle, and wrapped electrical tape around the dipstick as a makeshift replacement. I went to Pep Boys and got a universal replacement tube/dipstick, changed the oil, putting in five quarts of OPEC's finest, ran the boat, and let it sit for 10 minutes in the water. Then, I adjusted the universal for a full reading, and called it a day.

Close enough, I say.

here are the measurements

28 inches over all length.
bottom of handle to tip of blade 26 inches

@frank, ah it would be all good if I could drain all the oil out to put in the 5 quarts but the PO has put a bolt in the sump at the bottom so there is no tube to drain the oil out through the drain plug hole. Best we could do is suck 3 quarts out. Engine needs to be pulled out really to sort it properly...eeek

Thanks for that dude, did you get the measurement of the tube as well? Plus the min and max mark?

Reason why I ask is our tube is about 6" long, and we are not sure that the dip stick actually goes with it, thats about 15" long from visual memory. Trying to work out how far the dip stick actually goes into the engine/sump(oil pan). PO has really bodged it

My tube is 19 inches long from the top to where is enters the engine. Picture shows where 19" mark is on dip stick

Min_max starts at 1.25 from tip of dip stick to 2.25 on .25 increments per quart.
