Why did MC put the bilge pump in the complete rear of the boat (2002 Maristar) when all the water collects at the low point of the hull, where the center drain is located?

My 1991 Maristar bilge is in the center next to the drain.

I have a small leak somewhere in my exhaust system or at the cap seal that will let enough water in after an hour of pulling. Water goes to the rear and does not reach the drain til we are off plane at which time it spreads out over the whole bilge instead of being concentrated in rear.

I have debated about installing a second bilge toward the rear to pump water. (can not find the source and it is not worth the expense of digging deeper)

Guess there is no making everyone happy.......

My thought is that if it rains while at a dock the boat will have a load of water in it before the pump does its job being that its in the rear..

Ive thought of a 2nd pump as well, not a major cost

We added a 2nd pump just aft of the center drain plug for this very reason.. Simple to do and much more effective.

I don't think you have any thing to worry about from the too much standing water standpoint.
If you wanted to test; run water into the bilge and see when the auto auto switch kicks in and how much is left. Even if you put it in the middle, there will still be 1/2"+ of water left.

My problem is all the water goes to the rear and over the floor section. When we stop, the water above the floor rushes forward over the carpet :(
