Recently my 04' X2 - 310RPT runs typical RMP's until the engine warms up to full operating temp, then when I slow to stop and put into neutral the RMP's jump up to 1300-1500. Before my engine heats up it will sit around 600-800. It causes some harder shifts as the RMP's are racing. Also if I shift into gear the RMP's drop back down as well. Any suggestions on what might be causing this condition?
