I had a crusader captains choice 5.7 MPI MEFI 4 on a 2006 XStar SS.
Right from the start I have always had problems with the engine. In December it all come to a head the exhaust valve got stuck due to corrosion (apparently) and the piston hit it and cracked the block.
Im now going for a new engine and gearbox.. I already have a price for a direct replacement like for like complete with gearbox from PCM. At this stage I just don't know if this is the best option, however at least there would not be any modification to tha harness, gauges, controls etc...
Would appreciate forum members advice on whether this is the best solution for my problem. New engine and gearbox is running at 12,000$

12K for new engine and transmission (gearbox) for a saltwater boat? I would say that price is reasonable. IMO

I think the price is reasonable as well. Im just not sure whether this is the best engine to put in the boat...I have heard that the LY6 is much better but then might involve many modifications which im not prepared to do....

Shouldn't make any difference with the 6.0 or the 5.7 as they use the same ECU (diff program) and boat interface, you may need to check compatibility between 2006 and current version for the interface to the gauges etc as I can't recall if they have changed.

I searched around everyone seem to be saying that after 2007 it was a fly by wire system and therefore all gauges etc..would have to be changed. ...
