Hey everyone Im new here and new to master craft boats. I hust bought a 1976 stars and stipes off my uncle that sat for 4 years. I cleaned it up and got it running but there seems to be a leak somewhere and all the electrcail on the dash is out of wack.(rpm at full, water presure and oil presure not working) I was wondering if it is leaking between the boat and drive shaft and I dont know what it is called or how to fix it. Any help would be great.

Jay, if you can't see water leaking from the motor (coolant hoses) I would start with the packing box. It is the large bronze fitting in the hull that the shaft passes through. You may just be able to tighten it down to stop the leak if that is where it is coming from.

Welcome to TT, lots of great info and helpful people on here.

Welcome to Team Talk. Great way to break in with a classic like your '76. Your gauge and electrical issues are probably the result of corrosion at virtually every connection. I had the same problem when I got my '77 and spent a lot of time pulling my hair out. I eventually worked my way through the whole boat and cleaned every connection.

Not sure if there is an inspection hatch on MCs of this era.

If not, to get to the packing you're going to have to remove the engine cover, rear seat, and the removable floor behind the engine. If it is rudder or packing leaking, you're unfortunately going to have to be in the water, moving, to really figure out where unless it is obvious.

I was tinking of filling it with water from the hose to see if maybe it would leak out?

How much oil should the engin take? I have 5.5L in it but not sure how much it should have as the dip stick it broke.

So I had the boat in the water all this week and found the leaks and fixed most of them but now its leaking around the exhust out the back of the boat, how hard is it to pull the gas tank out?
