View Full Version : Course Skiing...I'm hooked!

Today was the first time I ever got a chance to try the slalom course. The conditions were terrible, we swam for 20 minutes to set it up, and all of my academics and studying about body position went out the window...but I have never had so much fun skiing!

I was able to make 1 buoy at 30mph @ 15 off, and ran a full pass of novice buoys at 30 @ 15 off twice in a row...and made the start and end gates for each pass. Not bad for a first time?

I love how it sets a "barometer" for your skiing and gives you something to strive for one ball at a time.

I'll stop waxing poetic now, just wanted to share my excitement for my newfound love :D

I too hope to be able to post a similar experience soon! I am a recreational skier and have always wanted to try a course. I am in SE Wisconsin and although we have a ton of lakes, there do not seem to be any courses around???

Here's a few of the wipeouts from last night at Metroplex Ski Club's Ski League:

Not a wipeout, but more of a determination to nail that 28' off pass....

You'll NEVER run 28off if your ski isn't on edge crossing that little wake!:D

Dislocated both shoulders and tore ligaments in both knees between '91-'94 I'm not returning to the course any time soon but it was a blast while it lasted

That last pic looks like me passing over the wake... what happened - fall of the edge?

You are on a slippery slope towards obssesion and I urge you to remember your family and job. Definitely set aside one day every summer to boat with your wife/kids and try not to leave work early too often just so you can get some sets in.

Chris Kosek from Buffalo Minnesota told me I had to be in this position crossing the wake. I tried real hard but clearly it is going to take more practice. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/12/e6avadeb.jpg

He told me this as he was pulling behind a 2013 Malibu Response

This is what I need to work on as well..... I am hoping I will find out what I am doing wrong tomorrow... probably a commitment thing... or growing a sac... ;) - can't wait... It's soooo easy for someone to tell us slalom in training folks.. it just takes time. Hopefully I will have some video from tomorrow with Wade Cox.

i've never done it either but really want to. i consider myself kind of a beginner i guess even though i've been doing so for probably 15 years. i've never had any kind of training or instructions. so i'm going to have a lot of faults and bad habits to break. i'm planning on going to coble's next year or maybe a weekend this fall. i actually emailed them last night.

JMLVMI, i see you are from NC......where did you run your course at??

Man I wish there was a course nearby. Never been through one but want to quite badly.

I would think there would be one around the DesMoines/Ames area. I have heard there is a ski team around Huxley or Gilbert.

If nothing else drive east to Liquid Edge in Farmer City Illinois. It is worth the drive IMHO

We have a small "ski club" (it's been 2 or 3 of us) that meets at Harris Lake once a week, and there is a submerged course on the lake. The line is anchored and we have to install and remove all of the balls every time we want to run it since we can't leave it. We are all novice skiiers (nobody can run a full pass that I know of)...looking to grow the "team" if you're interested. PM me and I'll add you to our email list.

I am going to Coble on September 7th for a one-day lesson. They may be full for the season but I know they do their best to work people in.

I wish I was closer to Harris however don't count me out. I'll send you a PM. Coble emailed me back this morning and put me on a wait list in case something opens up. She said they were pretty booked but would try to work something out. Already planning for next year though so I can guarantee something.

I think there are some in Des Moines but haven't looked that much. It's a decent drive but I should look into it. I have heard Lake red Rock had one, but have only been once and didn't hear about the course until after.

I have had one lesson at the liquid edge. He asked if I wanted to go through the course or get better ...... I said get better. Plan to go back at least once this year.

I've always thought the college clubs should have more sets ups so that people could rent sets from them.

Then you'd have ames and iowa city.
