Well, just left the doc. torn trapezius and pectoral muscles on my left side. out for at least 2-3 weeks. Mick Jagger was right, it's a drag getting old...

let's hear about those water sports injuries, big or small...

I know 3 people with rib inuries.. all happened in the last 2 weeks... one barefooter, and 2 slalom... minor injuries - but injuries none the less.

don't forget - warm up run.... stretch and don't ski when fatigued... that's when most of the injuries happen...

Technically this isn't a watersports injury, but it is severely affecting my skiing this summer. I broke fibula and dislocated my tibula in December and had surgery. I was non-weight bearing for 10 weeks and then spent another 10 weeks in a walking boot. I still have to wear a brace daily to keep the swelling down and it is tender to the touch. My ski binding is uncomfortable to say the least and I am too scared to attempt wakeboarding. It's also looking like a second surgery is likely for this winter. For now, I am the permanent driver.....

I blew my femur into 4 parts. My body spun and the ski stayed nicely engaged on the surface of the water.

Man, I'm starting to feel like a whiner with torn muscles. You guys r getting beat up! A few years ago I lost my wake skate in the air trying a wake to wake big spin, and when I went in the water the board hit and slid up my shin. Immediately a stripe about an inch high raised up from my ankle to my knee, right on the front of my shin. Hematoma. That one hurt.

Oh man, Happy Healing to all of you! I still have yet to have a boating injury :) Maybe I should knock on wood...?

It wasn't that bad of a fall, but turned my arm black and blue. It's been 3+ weeks, the arm is better, but the shoulder just can seem to lift any weight. I can turn it, actually swim a little. I have no strength when I go to push with it.

Compression fractured L4 back in January due to a very hard landing on ATV. Hasn't healed since. Just dealing with the pain. Doctor has suggested a Kyphoplasty procedure or try a back brace for 3 months. Just wondering if anyone on here has had this procedure done?
Kyphoplasty is a procedure were basically cement is injected into the vertebrae to assist in healing and reduce the pain. Usually for people with osteoporosis but doctor said he could tap the needle in with a hammer. That got my attention.

"The goals of kyphoplasty are to reduce pain from the fracture, stabilize the vertebra, and restore the vertebra back to its normal height."

Thanks in advance for the advise.

This sucks. I have pretty much done everything you can do to a back including breaking. Time and exercise is my answer. If it becomes unbearable look into all the options you can. I have always dealt with it and I have been lucky. It sucks. I am not saying sugary is ever the answer but laser is looking more and more like a potential solution.

Could be just soft tissue tear in there, I did it throwing batting practice for my kid. Took nearly a year before I could throw the ball again with velocity. I just stopped throwing at all and it healed perfect.

Was hit by a drunk doing 70mph while sitting in my squad at a red
Light. Launched my marked Explorer 200ft down the road. Chipped teeth , stitches to face and eye, torn neck muscle , torn meniscus and acl in my knee after buckling under the dash, and some wicked post concussion syndrome issues (vision, dizziness, headaches and fatigue). Of course he basically walked away unscathed after being extracted. All in all beats the alternative. Gonna be long winter.

Yea my face has been a mangled mess way before this. Reminents of a WCHL/ECHL hockey career. Needless to say my modeling career never got off the ground. The lip is from a George Perros slap shot to the face after a deflection. Took the stitches and coughed up 10 jiblets with that one.

I got a cortisone shot in my elbow yesterday, DAMN did it hurt! Still cant move my arm very much, in a sling with a wrist brace on. Doc tells me this is normal for the shot to still hurt like hell.

I'm not sure I would do the shot again.

I have had 5 injury incidents of note in the last 45 years of slalom.
1. After a slalom crash, slamming into forward edge of wake, I was unconscious floating face down until someone finally jumped in and rolled me over. They thought I was messing with my binding.
2. Odd slalom crash kept me close to the ski. Resulted in 7 stitches between the little toe and the one next to it. At the time I was ready to get back in the water, but boatmates insisted on a trip to the ER. Did not like me bleeding all over his boat. Still don't know exactly how it happened. No bruising anywhere and no other indication of ski contact.
3. Inner chest wall injury following a significant slalom crash. The injury took several days to manifest itself - so by the time it arrived I had no incident to relate the crushing chest pain to - so got a not-so-free trip in an ambulance with everyone thinking I was having a heart attack (at 33 yrs old?)
4. Pulled a hamstring doing a deep water slalom start back when I was getting heavier and the outboard was getting weaker - this lead to buying my first inboard.
5. About ten years later pulled the same hamstring just from skiing while out of shape at Ski Paradise in Acapulco. Most of the skiers there were two footed starters and I am not. The drivers down there had been pulling me up as if I were. I never thought about it but on the 5 day it just went out and put a quick end to the rest of my trip.

After all this time and the frequency and forcefulness of my crashes - I feel pretty fortunate.
