I don't think you guys are getting it!
I am sure the wing on top of the tower is designed to provide downforce, to get a better wake. :D

Ahhh, never mind.................. it looks like :firejump:

He needed this surface area to mount solar panels to keep the batteries charged while anchored.

Isn't that boat a 98?
Maybe the wing helps it turn.

It's for the wake. Doesn't look so special.

Isn't that what you cook your breakfast on during those early morning ski sessions over the summer?

Its an antenna for a satelite phone. Incidentally, which he can use to call for help after his tower is torn off the boat by the wind going down the road. :D

I pulled this info off of the Bigairpylons.com website. I have their tower on my boat and love it! However, I can't imagine the benefit of this wing to the wake is worth the cost and dork factor.

The New Wake Wing for your Big Air Tower

Patent Pending
The Wake Wing is the ultimate addition to your tower.
The Wake Wing gives you a fatter wake and radical styling.
The Wake Wing can be installed or removed in just a few minutes.
The Wake Wing is a true aerodynamic wing designed to generate down force while at speed.

Apparently you can only put them on Malibu boats ;)

Wakeboarders will apparently do crazy stuff to get the wake they want. This is kind of a cool idea. Too bad it looks so dorky. I'd be fascinated to know what effect it has at 46 mph.

I don't think 20 to 25 mph will produce much down draft.

No, but the thing weighs 800 lbs... :D

I thought I read that the same guy that designed the X-Star graphics wants MasterCraft to start putting these things on their towers from the factory.

I'd be concerned about it increasing the tongue weight of my trailer at 65mph. :)

Leroy

Should take 1-2MPH out of the top end!

This thread summarizes my reaction to towers back in 2000, stupid, why would you want that over your head, now I want one, but I really don't see the wing.

What if you turn it upside down??? Then wouldn't it help to lift the boat OUT of the water, increase top end, and make the wake SMALLER???

... for us slalom guys!

Leroy

Now that is practical! Not sure what you would get but if you think of 300-400 pounds of lift?

I wouldn't worry so much about downforce. On the first boat, the angle is right, but the airfoil is actually facing the back.

If that starts to be an option on a MC from the factory, that will be the day that I trade in the MC. I don't see how you could justify that.

If you truly need the additional ballast, take the $650 that it is going to cost you to get that ugly setup and go buy some friends to ride around in the boat with you. At least then you won't look like you are turning your wakeboard boat into a rice burner.....maybe we could re-routing the exhaust so that it comes out above the water line. yeah, that would be a great idea :D
