Can I use steel wool to remove the old gasket off the engine block where the circulating water pump connected or should I use something else?

I avoid steel wool because of the debris it creates... I recommend emory cloth... try a razor knife to see it will slice away.....did that with my riser gaskets.

Thanks. Yes I was thinking of using a flat blade razor. I pick up some emory cloth too.
