I dinged the prop on my 2002 X30 (Maristar 230) on Memorial Day weekend, now I'm wondering if I should get one of the new machined Nibral props that the kids are talking about these days.

The original prop is an OJ 14 x 18, and I found a good deal on an ACME 1589 (http://www.wakeprops.com/acme-1589-propeller.html) 14.5 x 16 that I'd like to pick up.

Questions:
- Wakeprops.com recommends an ACME 1479 (http://www.wakeprops.com/acme-1479-propeller.html), or similar prop with a 'spline' shaft instead of the '1 1/8"' shaft that the ACME 1589 (http://www.wakeprops.com/acme-1589-propeller.html) has. What does this mean? I know my prop shaft is 1 1/8", and I don't feel anything splined in my existing prop or shaft, so what is this splined business about?

- How do prop diameter, pitch, and bladecount affect fuel economy? I'm not that concerned about either hole-shot or topspeed. Even with 10 people on the boat and full ballast the boat gets up fast enough. I just want it to maintain speed with a wakeboarder pulling behind, and do so with the least possible amount of gas. I know that higher pitch gives higher MPH to RPM ratio, what does it do to MPG?

Thanks for the help:D!

You have a keyed shaft unless it was purposely changed at some point. Thus you will need a keyed prop. I'm running an OJ 14.75x15.5 on my 02 X30. It's perfect for our family. Much better hole shot. The wife even noticed when she pulled me the first time. We board, surf, and tube with no issues. I have the Indmar 5.7.

And the factory prop is about the most fuel efficient prop for our boat. It all goes down hill from there lol

Call Eric at OJ Props. He gives great solid advice. I would just send to him for repair. He just did mine this week, they ship it out the same day they receive it so you can get it back by Friday.

Definitely sending the dinged prop back to Eric, but I'm worried about getting it roundtrip from California in time for fourth of July.

I also went with the OJ520 which is 14.75x15.5. No clue how it works, but it is damn pretty.
