I am looking for a new truck to purchase. I am looking at the Chevy duramax diesel, Ford 250 gas, and Ford 350 diesel? I need some advice I think all should have no problem pulling the MC! I am currently pulling with my Tahoe. I have never owned a diesel, so any info would be great!!!!

Just a question, but why would you be considering a F250 w/o a diesel?

There is a huge ride difference in the F350 compared to the F250.
The Chevy is the quietest with the best ride, but I like the looks of the Ford. I think we have some diesel fanatics on the board that can break it down better for you.

The Ford 250 is a gas engine, actually the 350 is too!! They are used they are asking around 30,000 fot the ford's with around 35,000 miles on "04" and $30,000 for the "03" GMC diesel with 85k miles on it! Is that alot of miles for a diesel with all highway miles?

Go with a F250 with Power Stroke. Maybe you can find a dealer that will sell new for emp. type pricing they were offering.
Just my :twocents: , but it is your $30K to $40K ;)

Yeah, for 30plus you can get pretty darn close to a brand new f250 Diesel...that's what I'd go for.

But, diesel go forever if you take care of them, thats not too bad for a diesel (85k), but for that kinda money I'd go new. You should be able to get em down to about 35 on a 4 door diesel.

why ford or chevy, why don't you buy a "real diesel"- CUMMINS! But, haven driven all three, the chevy is the quietest, but doesn't get the economy IMO as the ford, but both pull real hard, and should last for at least 250k miles...my cummins is still REAL strong at 250 with not a problem one since I bought it....(100k ago) :twocents:

I have the 2500HD Duramax. Be glad to converse in a PM with my experiences in the GMC. It works well for me. GM is changing the Chevy and GMC body styles in 07. Personally I'd wait for the change if I were interested in a GM product.

I don't have your 650 or 750 dream rig. Just a measly F250 Powerstroked 4X4 crew cab. Get about 15mpg all day long with a load or not. Have 75K on it now without a single issue. Did brakes on it at 65K. Tires at 50K. Stops like it has hooks that dig in the ground. I regularly tow boats, snowmobiles, Jeeps, trailers of all sorts, and usually have the bed filled with this or that.
I do not like the 6.0's so far they still have bugs in them. Many of my friends have them and they do funny things some times.
Gm trucks have independent suspensions. Sort of like a 1/4 ton truck might(if there was such a thing) I would buy one in a second if they put a real axle and suspension in them.
I would only buy a Ford or GM truck. No Mercedez Benz/Dodge for me. Sorry. So I can not give reference on them. Although I have heard they are going to offer a crewcab and a half which would be cool.

I also own a Yukon but no diesel, my wife drives it too and I did not want to subject her to the issues that come along with them. Noise, Smoke, Smell, the fuel stops (Most of them are just flat out nasty as h*ll!)

That is probably someone that would build it for some advertisements, some corporate sponsorships, and then off it to some unsuspecting consumer that will have nothing but problems with the laws and breakdowns from the hack job. Just my thought on that kind of stuff. Man there has got to be some money in there. I think the stock version is between $80-120K. To each there own.

you won't need to lift it....
the x-80 would hook up to that dropped receiver hitch in the pic, and the top of the boat would probably be level with the truck

it was as tall as my travel trailer

Hey man i've worked out of a F250 powerstroke and it pulls like a champ. We've had over 25K on a 25ft gooseneck and didn't even have brakes on the trailer and had no problem. I would consider any of the 3/4 ton diesels. No problem pullin the mc or yacht for that matter.

What year is the Ford? Early 6.0 Liter PSD's had some REAL issues. I'd avoid a used one of them like the plaque. The Duramax is a decent motor. IMO you'll be disapointed with a F250 with the gasser. Don't forget to look at the Cummins, hands down no matter the brand war, the data shows time and time again unequivakly (sp?) the Cummins is top in class for mileage, longevity, and power. BTW, you'll be glad you go Diesel. If and when I own a pickup truck again, I could never buy a gasser again. Regardless of economies either way, there's nothing like pulling and drivin' a diesel. Makes you want to go oh, oh, oh (Tim Taylor grunt)

Oh, and all of them have transmission issues eventually. I think they need a 12 speed manual for the torque they produce these days.

I have worked for a GM dealer for over 25 years driven and worked on them all and my truck is a F250 super duty. It is without a doubt the best truck I have owned! I am partial to the 7.3 over the 6.0. and love the old arcaik (sp?) straight Dana front axle. 6 speed ZF for sure. Love it! I do keep a Yukon in the garage if I need a smooth girly ride :D

I have owned many F150's and one F350 PS, the 350 pulled the bast and got decent fuel mileage but man it's a big truck for around the city.

Here's what I know,

Duramax=Isuzu Jap engine, Allison's Tranny have issues
PS=International builds for Ford, avoid first year 6.0's big issues
Cummins=Dodge, Great engine, so so truck, and owned one Dodge and will never give those guys money again! New Charger is cool but!!

Saw a used Charger in the Porsche lot today. The person must not have liked it, traded in on a 911. Guess they didn't do their homework, or had a pile of money to spend before someone took it away... I think he said it has 1800 miles. Whatever, I should have taken it for a ride.

Not to mention that my neighbor parks his Durango in his driveway every night now, instead of the garage, since I told him that it was ugly to look at. What did my parents say 'if you don't have anything nice to say...'. Ok I get the point now Mom. :)
