I have an 05' Xstar and have noticed a couple small tears in the bow seats. The tears are in the stitching were the seat meets the backrest. Is there anything to do to slow down or fix this before it gets worse?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Mine is more in the stitching where the seat meets the back rest. Same tear in the same spot for both bow seats.

Cheap vinyl from about 2003 to 2006. Vinyl cracking and stitches tearing out is not a rare problem on MasterCrafts of that vintage. They won't stand behind it.

I thought the bad vinyl started around 2001-2004ish.

Stokey, I have the same problem (same 05' boat).
Do you think we can just replace the backrest skin, and re-sew it to the seat?
Or does the whole skin need replaced (due to aging & discoloration)?
Do you have a $ estimate on this repair?
Please let me know how you solve this issue, thanks.

Mine did this for about two years then got really brittle and all hell broke loose. I stopped caring. Used it another year then was time for a complete rebuild. I was told there was nothing you could do except try and glue it as a temporary fix but I didn't bother with it.

My 2004 209 was already in this crack condition when purchased couple years ago.

JUst installed all new, the worst 1/2 of it all replaced with same stuff - pattern - stitching.
It all looked just like the link bigmac listed (https://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk...ighlight=vinyl)

My Opinion - women cause all of it.
They apply the worst chemicals hourly of suntan products - to what ever.
It's the number one vinyl killer.

Now let the Vinyl get exposed to hours of hot sun with fresh coatings of lotions embedded.

So now that new interior is done - New Rules...
No more sitting on bare seats w/o full terry bath towels - even if I have to sew on straps to keep them there.

Bone white towels - to reflect the heat of the sun when it's just sitting.
Replaced daily if needed.

Vinyl absorbs water & oils - Take it from there.
Bare feet are the worst for transferring dirt, water & oils into vinyl.

Quality vinyl won't crack like that and its integrity will be pretty much impervious to such chemicals. The stitching can be vulnerable to UV and chemicals, but MasterCraft's cracking vinyl problem is due to just plain old inferior vinyl.
Fortunately (for them), the problem manifests itself after the warranty is up, so they're off the hook. Between that screwed up upholstery and my creaky dash, not much going on on my boat to impress the passengers with MasterCraft quality.

Yea I have the same issue with my 04 x2 same old story bought it new got, cracked right away. Got it partially warrantied only for that to crack out as well. Tried to buy replacement interior last year and they said no longer available for an 04. I am not sure why I wanted to replace it would just crack again? This year I found an 04 for sale with 2011 x1 interior for sale and thought my prayer has been answered. I will just order 2011 interior for an x1 since it is the same size. Mastercraft must really hate 2004 x2 owners and just want us to go away because they said no they will not sell me interior from a 2011 either. What a disappointment, I did more research and this owner was able to get them to sell it too him since he was buying a new boat. Not something they want to do for old cracked customer. I guess MC is thinking I'm not important enough unless maybe I buy a new one then they might consider? I cant think of a more disappointing way to treat a customer? a customer that has really tried to be loyal.

Not only does MasterCraft fail to stand behind their product in replacing obviously defective product materials and design (vinyl, fuel pump) but they won't even continue to stock the parts necessary to replace the defective stuff (can't get 2004 skins).

It's not just you. MasterCraft treats everyone that way. Sometimes you get a good dealer that will go to bat for you. Sometimes not.
